Povey best option?

After watching him this year there has to be another option at corner. He can't cover anybody. If a team wants 10 yards they just throw to his side for 11 yds because he is so worried about getting beat deep and he still does twice a game. I have to believe Davis is a much better option because of his athleticism. And leavitt was much better when he got time and now he doesn't play much at all!! Also what about hogan on the bench. Watching povey takes me back to the days of fowler and Buchanan playing DB.

He is fine as long as bills is in.

He gets Beat deep even when bills is in. I would rather let bills roam around and make plays rather than have him worry about covering povey's guy all game long.

Given all of our CB injuries and professional BB defections and 2012 graduations and players booted for eating too much bad Mexican food on Halloween - I prefer to appreciate Povey for what he does bring.

I'd agree. I would like to see Leavitt get more PT than just n kickoffs, but I trust Howell on this decision.

PoVey intended to redshirt this year to allow his foot to heal. Since Spring he had torn his plantar fasciaa three times, so he is essentially one-wheeled. After the injuries to JJ/TT, Howell and Bronco asked him if he could play through it.

Their analysis--Skye PoVey with one-wheel and no acceleration was better than anything else available. I haven't seen anything to lead me to believe the subs are any more reliable.

But everybody always knows that Bronco plays the much worse player over the truly talented, athletic, and genius guy on the bench, in order to teach that guy on the bench a valuable life lesson.

Here's an idea. Maybe we should trust the guy who puts top 10 defenses on the field to make personnel decisions. Povey has his weaknesses but he is the best option out there or someone else would be playing.

I know, right? How long until Anae and Ja. Beck pull their heads out into the sunshine and let Ammon Olsen loose?

I have all the trust in the world in bronco and his ability to send out great defenses. But from my observation leavitt has played much better when he gets time and I saw Davis in person against ga tech and thought he did a great job out there. Every time an opposing qb's throws deep I think oh crapp he has beat povey and most of the time it's true. I appreciate his heart and determination but that only goes so far.

Ansah was not the best option to start the year last year. He improved exponentially as the season went on once he started getting starters minutes. Without an injury to the guy in front of him, no one would have taken the risk to start him over the more reliable guy.

Povey is in there for run support and tackling.

Just like the offensive line Talent is the issue more than coaching. Injuries have put Povey on the field. it is what it is. Byu usually struggles to get good DB's, the fact that we are rolling with 2-3rd string guys and still winning is some kind of miracle.

On the flip side Byu traditionally can get good offensive lineman. Now that we are rolling into 2-3rd string guys I am disappointed the talent level has dropped off as much as it has.

This is what separates the big boys from the mid majors; depth. IMO why Utah will struggle for awhile in the PAC.

Our 3 year and counting drought at OL, TE, FB, and until a few weeks ago, QB, have been astounding. We have NFL linemen and TE with SuperBowl rings and MVP trophies. We have put several decent OL, and FB and TE in the league. We are QB University.

Astounding how far that fell and how long it has remained a problem.

You proved Qmans point. "once he started getting starters minutes." Had he gotten more time sooner, he would have improved even sooner. But, the end turned out great. And now where is the injured guy who was supposedly better?

Coaches are paid to win games, not take huge gambles on guys who may or may not improve with starters minutes. Ansah seized an opportunity and made the best of it. Bronco made the best personnel decision for his team last year by starting Manu at DE. When Manu got injured, and Ansah was what they had left, that made him the best choice and he improved so much he was picked with the 5th pick in the draft. No one, here or anywhere else was clamoring for Ansah to start at the beginning of the year, in fact I remember a lot of nervousness that he was forced to start.

Eathyn Manumaleuna? Uh, he's tearing up offensive linemen like a man among boys. He was better than Ziggy pre injury 2012 and deserved to start over him.

Ok fair point. But Manu is a better nose tackle than DE, in my opinion. He certainly wasn't getting to the qb and disrupting as much as Ziggy did. And he certainly isn't this year either. But is he Fuga's equal? Probably.
