Makes some new predictions. Interesting read.

The Pac 12 received an increase for their baffling additions of Colorado and Utah.

What I’m certain of is that in 12 years when the Big XII’s grant of rights expires it will lose at least four members and perhaps as many as five or six. If that happens then the door opens wide for several deserving schools to join the party.



Until then the best thing Boise State, BYU, Cincinnati, UCONN, UCF and USF is to commit to going division four and win as many high-profile games as possible.

So, in other words, let the Big 12 know we're interested, win as much as possible in the meantime, and then be ready when they call us in 12 years?

But, with the exception of Utah, all of the schools added either added new markets to conferences with conference networks (or with one in the planning stages)  or added schools with historically strong programs with plenty of brand appeal

Depending upon which 4 teams the Big12 loses, it may not make any sense to join that conference, as long as we can make Div 4 without being in a conference.

Our ESPN contract is setting us up nicely for expanding our national reach and building the brand for what will happen in the future. We should have done it like 10 years ago. If we had, we would be in the Big12.

I don't remember if it was Bronco or Holmoe, but recently one of them commented that, given the current landscape of college football, independence was not a viable long-term solution. Instead, their goal is to perform well enough as an independent so that a top-tier conference will offer them membership without asking for concessions that BYU cannot.will not make (e.g. Sunday play, alcohol sales, and rebroadcast rights--this is my guess at the list, not BYU's)

BYU has strong enough of a national brand to garner an independent TV contrac with ESPN, a massive worldwide fan base, its own TV network and a solid football tradition. My criteria for demographics and academics likely undercount the true value of BYU, as its relevant demographics are really related to the world’s Mormon population and it has top tier undergraduate academics. Boise State might have the best record of recent on-the-field achievements out of any non-power conference school, but BYU is the one institution at this level that legitimately looks, feels and acts like a power conference program.

Just thinking about Hill and ESPN. These three years will go a long way to cementing our standing as a top tier team. If Hill can stay healthy we should see a big increase in tv ratings and fan base.
