Houston Prediction Thread

We probably know about all we are going to know by Saturday re our next opponent - The University of Houston. Cougars. Cougars on Cougars.



UH Cougars have been much improved on defense while a bit off compared to their glory years in offense. They are undefeated, but have not beaten anyone noteworthy.



We are who we are.



I have seen posters saying they are favored and posters saying we are favored. Someone on CC just posted a power ranking showing us at 23 and them at 22. Sounds like another interesting matchup. I am thinking they are about like USU before Keeton went down.

BYU by 5. UH passes well enough to expose weaknesses in pass coverage that GT showed but failed to exploit due to drops and misses. UH is smart and does not wait until Q3 to bring pressure.



UH is stout enough to slow our running backs forcing Hill to beat them with his arm and his own legs.



BYU 24. UH 19. BYU gets more sacks. UH tries more field goals. Turnovers even. UH throws for 260 and runs for 120. BYU throws for 280 and runs for 160.



That is how I see it. Gonna research it a bit, though.

I haven't crunched the Houston numbers yet, but I think none of the teams Houston had played have prepared them for the BYU defense. I don't think they'll do much of anything on offense.

In their 3 "toughest" games, they only managed 31, 25, and 22 points.



That's only +4.5, +4.5 and -7 points over/under their respective opponents scoring defense averages.



However, I still think BYU has kinks to work out on offense that puts its defense in tough spots and asks them to stay on the field longer than they should. Add to that my nagging doubt that the BYU O will be as dangerous on the road in an NFL stadium, and I think this will be closer than many seem to be putting it.



I'll go with BYU winning 36-20.

Houstons QB is young and has not seen a defense yet like he will face on Saturday.I think he will be hit hard and often and this will eventually take its toll on him.I am going to make a bold prediction and say there will be another pick six.

My prediction: Cougars win.

My impression is that BYU wins, but I'm cautious in saying that because I'm 1-5 so far this season. Yes, I have sports superstitions, even though I know they don't exist, it's hard to move away from what works, so if I pick UH, then it seems like the game is in the bag for us.

Seeing Houston struggle with Memphis last week gives me hope that we roll them. I'm hesitant to say so, as I thought we'd roll Utah as well. With the improvement on offense, though, and being that this will easily be the best front 7 that Houston has seen this year, and I say that the D makes Houston's offense more ineffective, and we win 41-17.



Also, being an away game and all, party at the Cougar Corner cave, Hawk?

It worked for me with the Texas game.I use the same strategy or make a vague prediction as made above.Go Cougars.

This year I have found myself worrying more about the games. Must be that I don't have the confidence in the O and the db's playing 10 yds off the ball on 98.4% of the plays scares me there because I believe we are vulnerable.



BUT, the front 7 are tougher than most colleges will see ... and they have done a pretty good job of dictating the games (with a notable exception or two).



So ... If we score less than 13 we lose, if we score more than 21 we win.



I predict 28-18 BYU

There is a reason Houston is 5-0 and has gotten no votes in any of the polls; they have played nothing but the worst teams in D-1...and struggled to beat some of them. This will not be a contest. Hill will have his first 300 yard passing game, and a 100 yards rushing. Williams will have over 100 rushing. Hoffman will have 2 TD catches and over 100 yards receiving. BYU will have over 500 yards of offense. The BYU defense will score twice. Houston will not get 10 points until late in the 4th quarter.



Houston players exhibit a lot of confidence because they are undefeated, but let's be honest here, Houston is not a great football team. In fact, if BYU goes fast and hard, and the defense scores a couple of times, BYU could score in the 60s. Bronco never piles on the scoring, however, and will have the subs in the game most of the second half, so Houston could get a couple of late scores.



BYU 48 Houston 10

That has long meant Hawaii to me.



Now - my son is serving a mission in Houston which reminds me it means Houston to many.



If Houston runs the table in 2013 they may remind of Hawaii in a BCS Bowl.



Ain't happening. Hawaii did not play BYU. Houston will.

I'll be at Reliant watching this one so that'll bump the team another TD or 2.

BYU 24-13. I'm not convinced by the offense yet and UH will blitz a ton. You can add another 3-10 points for BYU if the defense gets some takeaways.

I agree with the blow-out scenario. I cannot imagine any scenario in which BYU would not fare as well against UH as they have against USU and GT. BYU 47, UH 17. That would include two garbage time FG's by BYU and one garbage time TD by UH. Without any garbage time, BYU would widen the blow-out to 61 against 13. But Bronco will pull the stallions for a quarter or more, so we won't see that much of a score. There are many UH fans that believe in their chances for upset. One even used the phrase "massacre BYU," in an interview. This almost makes me feel sorry for them ; they don't see the freight train that is about to smack them. I know, I know, "pride goeth before a fall." I estimate a one in six probability that this game could be close...but I wouldn't bet on it.

Agree somewhat.

First, Bronco won't sub too early, especially at qb. They will take their foot off the accelerator, have a mediocre 3rd quarter, not adjust, and then cause all starters to be in that shouldn't be in.

UH fans don't see the freight train coming. That bright light at the end of tunnel ain't a BCS invite.
