Is Hoffman 100%?

Is he 100% mentally? I don't think his biggest issue is he hamstring. Wasn't he supposed to be 100% before the USU game? I know he was going up against a good DB, but I seriously thought he was still suspended because I didn't see him at all in the first quarter. That interception...the Hoffman of last year (or of any of the last 3 years) would have won that ball. When he was suspended a week earlier there was a TV shot of him standing alone on the sidelines not looking happy at all. Williams and Hadley who were also on the sidelines not playing appeared to be mingling and talking and even smiling. Someone else on CC reported that at the fireside before the Virginia game that Hoffman appeared to lack some fire.

At this point in the season I'd have to agree and say that he lacks the fire that he's had in past seasons. Maybe he's depressed or bipolar or has thyroid issues. My wife has all 3 and at times really lacks a fire in her life. Maybe someone in his family died or he got dumped by his girlfriend. Maybe I'm totally wrong, but something is bothering him besides his hamstring. Hope he gets better soon.

i have no idea but there is no question his body language doesn't look good. he has never been a raw raw type of guy but he doesn't come off as very happy right now. hopefully this saturday will get him back on track. having him and mathews on both sides with good chemsitry with taysom could be huge for us this year

Been saying this all season. Poor guy might be regretting coming back after all. I'm glad he's still around though...we need him no matter his condition.

As I have posted already on at least two other posts - THIS:

Hoffman went down in practice the week of the USU game. Bronco indicated that at first, he thought it was a broken leg. It turned out to be a deep bruise.

Yes. He does not look 100%. He is not 100%. He could not practice in Fall Camp due to the hammy and thus is not in GFGH shape. About the time the hammy was improving, he got suspended for a week with additional criteria to meet over 4 weeks to avoid further suspension. Clearing that first week hurdle, BAM - Deep Leg Bruise - bad enough that it seemed like a broken leg at first.

Sure there could be even more going on. I hope not. The stuff above would seem to be plenty.

Fair question. Hoffman has appeared disinterested at times this season. A suspension is never a good thing from one of your most-talented senior players either.

By comparison, more leadership was expected from Spencer Hadley, an LDS returned missionary, and his mistake was much more public, embarrassing, and costly. But I never saw him give any less than 100% on the field this year.

Sometimes you wonder how much Ross Apo has bought into the current system/staff, or Friel/Mahina/Wilson/Houk/Sampson, or any of the current/future QBs not named Taysom Hill. We know that the LBs buy in completely though (and most of the defense). But does Kearsley? Wesley? Fabuluje? Duran? Carter?

The hamstring injury supposedly lingered. The leg bruise. The lack of pass plays. The GFGH and the need to be in tip top shape. 1 game suspension.

Could you blame him?

On the flip side; I have seen him doing a very good job blocking in selected plays this year. IIRC that was a part of his game he wanted to polish up before the draft.

don't forget he was out spring and most of summer because of shoulder injury as well.

No, he's not completely well. Something is up. Unless that/those issue(s) get fixed, it will be hard (but still doable) to beat Notre Dame and especially Wisconsin.

On another post, someone wrote that Apo seemed to be having similar issues (injuries that make him subconsciously afraid of contact) that effect his ability to be physical. If both can get over whatever's going on, with Mathews playing well, and if we can get our TEs involved, our offense will be very effective.

I always felt that a huge part of both Van Noy and Hoffman coming back was to take care of "unfinished business". I didn't see any lack of fire in Cody until we lost the Utah game. It's been apparent ever since.

I believe a number of factors, including this, have contributed to Cody second guessing whether he should have come back or not. Thus the product on the field.
