Hey, it could be worse. I spent the whole summer with 6 yewt fan in-laws living in my house. Yeah, it was pretty much like what you can imagine.

Never hard being a BYU fan for me! Always Loyal, Strong, and True. Loud and Proud. What happens, happens. How we react to it is what makes us what we are. Go Cougs! And when you sputter and fail, I'll always be there supporting you!

It's hard to be a Cougar fans when you are looking for an experience like most fans of college sports are. I don't believe that such an experience will ever be realized if it's along those lines. That is tough when that was the experience you began with to want. Having been born and bred an OSU Buckeye, and then becoming a BYU fan, both experiences are quite different. My true heart will always be with BYU because of what they stand for and they walk the walk, which is different than practically everyone else. Also, I attended BYU and only was accepted at OSU, but never attended there.

Yet following the Buckeyes, I have to put up with hires like Urban Meyer. In the realm of college sports he's a successful coach, but it's awful hard to like him after his stint with the Pukes.

Maybe it would be easier to be a Ute fan. You can have your personal standards and ignore player behavior and other vulgar Ute fan behavior.

I love how the Ute aspirational standard is "No DUIs." It's not even "No driving whilst drunk," but rather, "When you drive drunk, don't get caught." What's not to like about those standards?

You don't understand what I meant. I don't mean that it's difficult to remain a fan. I mean that as a fan of byu we have so much more to worry about than other fans, and we can have entire seasons sidetracked due to issues that would go completely unnoticed at any other school. It's hard being a Y fan in the same way that it's hard ring a mormon. Not that I have any intention or desire to give up either.

"When you do drink," "Stay thirsty, my friend."

Yeah, and when a BYU player breaks on of the "core values" he gets suspended for 5 games, when a Ute player breaks one of their "core values" they get suspended for a practice session?

Sometimes it hard to be a cougar fan when you are surrounded by comments like these.

We boldly tell the world we are different, we will hold our selves not to the law of the land but to our own moral code. The Utes and other programs choose not to, they go by the law of the land... fine we choose to be different.

Bashing "worldly" standards makes us sound arrogant and self righteous... which in my opinion is not what BYU is about! Nor is it a good missionary tool.

We need to be better about putting forward a higher standard and holding to it, not worrying about if others standards are right or wrong.

After what happened after the game (throwing trash incident) with the U we need to re focus our efforts. Its not just the football program that needs to be committed there core values, fans do to.

You need to learn to read. Worldly standards say that driving while intoxicated is wrong, regardless of whether you get caught or not. The U doesn't even come up to that standard. No one is saying that a public institution should have the same standards as BYU, but pointing out clearly flawed and sub-par standards at a public institution is far from arrogant or self-righteous.

PS-please tell me you recognize the irony of calling someone else things like judgmental, holier-than-thou, and self-righteous.

They get suspended a practice session to get over the hangover, not as a punishment :utard:

Or they get suspended after the season is over. Haven't forgotten about that whole Ratlliff situation up on the hill. That is the point I lost my respect for KW because it became obvious that he wasn't seeing college sports any different than any other college football coach. Wins were more important.

I thought BYU's moral conviction is what made BYU so great and that's why we're okay with subpar performance because our guys are held to a higher standard than the rest of college football. Whether they live it or not is another issue.

As difficult as it is to accept, this is true.

So who am I supposed to proselytize on Cougar Corner? You? Clearly you need a man card. You are totally confusing tolerance and standing for the right. Go get a beer poured on you and then turn the other cheek and shoulder so that Ute fan can throw another beer on your head.

Wow everyone bagging on 801 coug.... I will agree with 801 in principal. When Byu fans talk about Utah's lack of moral code it does look holier than though. We are judging Utah by Byu's standards in a sense. At Utah and many many colleges a DUI isn't an offense that will get you suspended. The KVN story spotlighted this. So for Utah to not suspend players for a DUI is normal to them, not us. Add in that we are a religious school and you get the holier than thou..

I think its fun to poke fun at the utes when a player does wrong and Kwitt turns a blind eye. For me to tell utah fans that they are wrong and I am right, that is a different story.
