runbyu11) Is QB Coach Jason Beck a big part of the problem? Taysom was MUCH better last year than this year. Check out the pass % and the PER. 122.40 in 2012. 74.27 this year. There are definitely technique/mechanics issues going on. Closed hips/overstriding/rifling, etc. (Sno is on target on this one!)
2) Is the O-Line the other part of the passing troubles? They are good at run blocking but still abysmal at pass blocking. Taysom can't seem to get comfortable back there. Ute D-line owned our O-line most of the night.
3) We got absolutely out-coached once again. Utah had a whole new set of plays that they broke out in the second half that our defense was totally unprepared for. It got them their only TD of the second half before our awesome defense adjusted to the new schemes.
4) If we were 1 dimensional before Jamaal went out, we were even more so when he went out.
5) I like Hine returning kicks
6) This was the first game this year where I had a major issue with offensive playcalling. Just awful at times. Passing it on 3rd and goal from the 2 when we've had an automatic 3 yards every run play and we can't complete a pass to save our lives? Two run plays up the gut and then pass on 3rd and long. Everyone knew it was coming.
7) I was at the stadium and felt that the refs set the tone for the game right from the start. When our receivers got clobbered the first two plays with no calls, you could feel the tension in the stadium. It only got worse. A truly GREAT team might have been able to overcome it, but that TONE really hurt things. Tom Holmoe's bad for agreeing to that bull crap.
8) We were surrounded by Ute fans in the stands. They were obnoxious but well behaved.
9) Letting Ben Cahoon go and replacing him with Guy Holliday has not paid off in games yet.
10) 48 Passing attempts when you have a sub 40% passer? Yeah that makes sense. If you can't pass...find a way to run the ball. At least we were getting 3 every time.
That's all I've got for now. Aside from the fact that Bronco must find some way to find some answers against Utah...and on offense in general. D is great. The O must be fixed AT ALL COSTS.
