Dear Bronco...

Dear Bronco,





Well here we are, a week away from the 9th rivalry with Utah since you became BYU Head Coach. Right now you are trailing 3-5 against Kyle "Judas" Whittingham, including having lost the last three games in a row. Losing a fourth would be achieving something even your hapless predecessor didn't do.



This year, you, the rest of the coaching staff, and the team have two weeks to prepare for Utah. Meanwhile, the Utes had to play Oregon State. And OSU beat them on their field. We have home field advantage.



This year, is it too much to ask that our team (at least the offense) doesn't play like a bunch of bed-wetting head cases like they have the past two years?



Is it too much to ask that we actually win the turnover battle for once and capitalize on the Utes' mistakes? I mean not for nothing Bronco but, for all your talk about "execution" over the years, there's been very little of that on offense in the past two Holy War games.



Is it too much to ask that Anae not run a decent offensive game plan only to give it away at the end with some boneheaded decision?



And is it too much to ask that, if we do win (and we damn well better), we don't have to squeak out a win by the skin of our teeth at the very end like we have in all three of your wins over Utah? Just once could we blow the Utes out of the water and run the score up on them?

Man, that's what I call a really thoughtful letter. Good thing you pointed out how many times BRONCO turns the ball over. He's always droppin the ball and tossin pick sixes. And Anae, that guy, trying to do the safe thing and put the ball where it should be a chipshot field goal!! Who does he think he is kidding. Guy is such a doofus.

I would just like to see the Cougars not choke this year. We have been habitual choke artists in the past when the pressure is on, so let's play like we did against Texas and really show up for this game!

First, players play as they're coached. Second, Utah has been better in game-time adjustments than us in past rivalry games.

After the Texas game KVN voiced some passion about the :utard: game. Hetalked about how much a win would mean to him, and so on. It was clear to this fan that, for KVN, this isnt "just another game."

I have also noticed that you were excited on the sidelines during the Texas game.



Could we please not hear anything about "just another game" this week? Could we PLEASE have appropriately UP for this game?



And please ... be mad about the past three years and let the score make a statement this year!

Dear Excited Fan:



I don't know about you, but I like being somber, reverent and quiet on the sidelines most of the time... it's so relaxing and it affords me the opportunity of being a spectator of sorts. Plus, I don't want the General Authorities to get the idea that I'm passionate about the game of football... what kind of message would that be sending when we're supposed to be kind, charitable and loving to our fellow man? I'm a Bishop after all... Bishops can't be getting fired up at young men and getting in their faces during football games... that isn't Christ-like and think of all the primary children who would look at me differently if I did. And by the way, yes, this is just another game... just like the last 3 years and I'm approaching it the same way I'd prepare for Middle Tennessee. Thanks for the letter.

I'd also like to point out that the most emotional, jacked BYU team I've seen was Utah 2011. Looked good for the first half, scoreboard 54-10. 2011 utah@BYU was a disaster BECAUSE of the team was trying to run on pure emotion,. Sooooo... I don't mind coachspeak (just another game) for another week if it means that the team comes out focused and ready to beat the crud out of the utes this year.

Utah is our Kryptonite.



I don't care how bad they are or how good we are. It's always a toss up and lately the coin seems to be landing in their favor.

Bronco never shows emotion - outside of the times he does.



Kind of like how if you take out all the good teams BYU has beaten, they've never beaten a good team.



Can someone tell me if Texas is a good team? They won 9 games last year. Returned a TON of starters. Are a historically good team. Play in a good conference. But this year they may not be good, but surely those other factors make them a good team, right?
