If Texas knocks off a ranked Ole Miss team today, they will likely move up closer to breaking back into the Top 25. BYU has a bye. Do the pollsters move BYU up too if Texas wins? :roll:

They should, but they won't.

We got their defensive coordinator fired. Does Ole Miss get their head coach fired?

Ole Miss beat them worse in Austin than we beat them in Provo. Texas needs to learn from other Elite programs and quit scheduling decent opponents for OOC games. They better fix that D fast or they will not ne ranked nor will they be going bowling.



Ole Miss is decent. Better than BYU right now.



If TH learns to pass, BYU has more upside.

I think both games were a pretty equal beat down. Ole Miss did win on the road but BYU pounded Texas into an all-time worst defensive performance by the Longhorns. There isn't much to be proud about if your a Texas fan the least two weeks.



Bib, you also don't need to denigrate and attempt to belittle our dismiss BYU's victory. It was a historic one. No team - ever, in the history of Texas football - did to Texas what BYU did. They've to teams like Ole Miss at home before. The BYU game had NEVER happened before. The has NEVER been a loss for Texas like the one to BYU

I neither denigrated or belittled our win. I still have that experience ranked ahead of Pitt and Okie and behind Miami, Michigan, and K-State - right about where it belings.



Ole Miss was a top 25 team going into this game and will move up as a result of this game.



I denigrated Texas for being foolish enough to schedule good teams like BYU and Ole Miss OOC instead of choosing an easier path like most elite programs choose.

Honestly I would hats to live in a world where bib was in control of scheduling. No tdecent eam would ever play anyone else that was decent and mediocrity would reign. Talk about boring.

Are you kidding. You live in that world now re OOC scheduling. That is how it works. Texas has plenty of tough games with Okie, Okie State, T Tech, Baylor, etc., and then a few others that can be dangerous in down years.



Go look at OOC scheduling in SEC and you will see how it works.



Look at the Trib article today re the huge payout difference depending on which bowl these teams make, if any - and you will understand why it works this way.



Then look at who plays for the NC the last few years and see how they get there.



I do not like it that way. I would prefer a system that levels the playing field, creates parity, encourages regional rivalries and well-matched opponents.



Play-off. Settle it on the field.





But that is not the system in play. Smart money figures out how to work the system while trying to change the system.



Go look at the Top 25 matchups for the first 3 weeks. Try to find 5 exciting non-conference games each week. There should be 25.



The Bibster did not schedule these games.

5 road games total. Only VA Tech OOC is a road game. Look at the map. Same time zone. 3 absolute cupcakes OOC. Even in conference they do not travel far. A&M was the furthest. Ni wonder they gave up so many points. LSU at home is toughest remaining game. That is the path to the NC game.

Big 12 has no Championship Game. Used to have one. It knocked them out of NC game one year when an upset occurred in that game. That is why they are in no hurry to get 12 teams and a championship game.



If ND keeps Okie out of NC - look for them to re-establish their rivalry with SE Okie in the future.

The Ole Miss score was inflated.Texas was up 23-17 at halftime. Ole Miss managed 450 yards of offense - about on par with their 2012 output and sub their 2013 average.



In the second half, Texas had 7 drives. It averaged 5.1 plays per drive (including punt plays) and had four punts (including three 3-and-outs), one returned by Ole Miss for a touchdown at the end of the 3rd quarter, a McCoy fumble in the 4th quarter (giving Ole Miss a short field for its final touchdown), and two turnovers on downs.



McCoy the younger just did not cut it in the second half. Lack of offensive production and the turnover.



I'm just saying, the Ole Miss game was much closer than the BYU game, despite the final scoreboard being very similar....and that was BYU against Texas' starting QB, not their backup.
