...I don't know what to really think of the Cougars. Can we say bi-polar?
Seriously, it was such fun, but it was hard to forget the sorrow that the first week was. I rewatched the movie In Search of Bobby Fisher the other night (if you haven't seen it, it's a great movie). It's one of my top 10 movies as it very craftsfully paints the picture that in every game, battle, etc., about half the participants and fans go away sad. The movie shows a seven year old boy's excursion through learning about not hating your opponent and winning because you have a desire to use your talents and win.
Though our loss to UVA was painful, I don't believe it hurt as bad as what the Texas fans endured this week. I mean it was their first non-conference loss on the road in over a decade. All those traveling Longhorn fans were so used to winning in these situations and they were ranked #15 and had had 700 some yard of offense over a lower opponent the week before. They were favored to win and then...they were trounced, beaten and kicked to the curve.
BUT, the one week I throw any feelings toward my opponent feeling bad if they lose is Rivalry Week. I don't give a rat's backside how terrible a Puktah fan feels when we beat them and the dark side of me can bask in that win for a very long time. Let their little kids cry uncontrollably and their fathers hang their heads low as they pump my gas.
