Logan.

Logan has been great. I am surprised that teams still go his way so often. They are asking for a broken play, or a bruised ego after our 5'6" guy clobbers em. I got a little nervous when he went out with a cramp but Eason actually made a nice play as well. Good to see the CBs tackling so well. I'm excited about the prospect of Logan playing at safety next year.

I'm really going to be interested in what they do with Logan for next year. He'd make a terrific safety, but then Eason/Buckner would have to step up and fill those shoes at corner.

If So'oto and Afutiti get eligible, Fuga improves and Tuiloma is as good as some of us think he'll be, I think our D should be pretty good. It's a shame that Matangi Tonga never got things together. We have several guys in the shed that can play some d-end, and a few recruits coming in that will help out.

Ogletree is going to make us forget about Clawson, Pendleton is only going to get better, Nelson is solid but not great, and of course Stout, Keoshian, VanNoy, Fua and others will be in the mix. We get very athletic at linebacker, just possibly not as fundamentally assignment sound (which is the reason BYU couldn't guarantee a starting spot for Teo... he's a monster but he also was out of place often on defense this year, Stanford had him running in circles)

Take a defense that could be much improved (barring injury, eligibility, or defection) and a qb that can run (I'm in the start Riley and redshirt Heaps boat) and we should be in most games next season.

Brian Logan is going to be a big part of that.

I love Logan. Have all year. The kid is all heart. You have to be to play at 5'6". And he reminds me of Justin Robinson who got abused his first year, but was awesome in 2006. I hope they keep Logan at corner with Aguirre on the other side, and move Bradley to safety opposite Rich. I think that puts our best 4 DBs on the field at once, with 2 solid back up corners. Plus, Bradley has great size to play safety.

I really think Bradley would make a great safety for us next year. I love the guy and he's better than most CBs we've had of late not to mention he's true blue, but I think Logan is the better CB (but would also make a nice safety). But since we have Rich back next year, we only really need one guy to move to safety and we've got Eason and Aguirre, possibly even Nicholson if he makes it back academically.

Everyone is talking about how there's going to be a significant dropoff next year on both sides of the ball and true while there are some question marks, I think we're much better off than we've been after any of the previous seasons.

A potential depth chart might look something like this:

QB: Nelson, Heaps, Lark

RB: DiLuigi, Kariya, Te'o, Phillips

FB: Kariya, Brown

TE: Wilson, Meuhlmann

WR: Jacobson, Ashworth, Apo

WR: Chambers, Hafoka, Mathews

LT: Reynolds,

LG: Hansen, Thorson, Speredon

C: Reynolds, Freeman (any number of combinations on the oline really)

RG: T. Brown, Taufi

RT: Alleto, B. Brown

DE: So'oto, Fabuluje

DT: Fuga, Manumaleuna,

DE: Putnam, Afutiti, Scwhenke/Jamora

SOLB: Pendleton, Tuitama

MMLB: Ogletree, Leung-Wai, Koeshian

For half the year I was thinking that Rich was graduating after this year. Good to know that he's going to be back. He came up huge in a few games this year.

Logan has been the most consistent player in our secondary. He had one bad game but other than that he's been solid. Our secondary should be really good next year. I hope we play Logan and Aguirre at CB and Bradley and Rich at safety. That would make for an awesome secondary. Who's in line to replace Scott Johnson right now?

I'm excited about our LB'ers next year. I love Pendleton, he's a beast. I like Grant Nelson. Oggletree is an animal, Atkinson has some potential. Not to mention we'll also have the luxury of having some great freshman in Van Noy, Stout, and Keoshian who all have a ton of potential. The one unit I'm a little worried about is the D-line. We'll have Putnam and Fuga who are serviceable. I really hope we can get Afutiti on the field because he's a beast. We have some great freshman coming in that can make some noise but don't remember all of their names. So maybe I shouldn't be all that worried. I think our defense will be great next year.

I'm still hoping that Unga decides to play another year.

What about Putnam at DE? He seemed to show a lot of promise last year, but hasn't seen much action this year.

Any chance Pendleton gets moved to Middle Linebacker? It would be incredible to have someone with his athleticism in the middle. Some of the recruits look promising to fill in the gap for him on the outside.

Is Richard Wilson going on a mission? I believe Austin Holt will be back and could get some time at TE

I thought Wilson had mission plans before he committed but all the latest I've heard is that he'll be back next year.

Holt is going to be a good one for us very soon but as I recall, he may not get back until right before fall camp. I'd rather have him just redshirt 2010 and get completely recovered from being an RM, even if it was just in St. Louis. Reports have been very good about Meuhlmann and Wilson both from camps and in running the scout team. They should be more than capable next year though we likely we'll have a return of the slot and only play on TE most plays. That would also help us space out some of our TE talent by redshirting Holt. But if he managed to stay in decent shape on his mission, we just may not be able to keep him off the field a la Pitta in '07. But Pitta did have a spring camp to work back into things and round into shape.

While we are talking position changes, one thing I would do is put Chambers in the slot role George took this year. Use his size and speed inside lined up v a safety or LB. I like that match up. He does not get many balls outside as it is, but could be a real beast working the inside. The kid is fearless on punt returns, so I do not think the middle would scare him. Utilize speed where you can on the field.

That wouldn't be a ton different than what happened to Dan Coats, who came to the Y as a receiver and ultimately built himself into an NFL level TE.

Chambers has zero chance as an NFL wideout; he's just not fast enough (he's not slow either but the odds of him in the league as a wr are low); however as a tight end, he really could end up with a football career. He's certainly big enough to make the transition. If he wants to get paid, that wouldn't be a bad idea, and he could make the bridge between Wilson and Holt much easier.

I actually think that he would have the best chance playing at safety. He would be incredible. I'm sure the coaches have probably tried to get him to consider it and he probaby doesn't want to.

I was under the impression that both of these players were being switched from TE to other positions. Same with Braden Brown. Not the same for Holt, Mahina, and Friel (on a mission). But there are so many talented young TEs that it's a bit difficult to tell them all apart right now.

Also, what happened to JC LB Atkinson this year? Was he completely non-Div. I ready? Did he redshirt this season? Will he contribute next year?
