After knocking Texas off by 19 points, BYU received 14 votes in the AP poll, good enough for a 32nd place ranking (Only 3 spots behind the University of Texas!) heading into their bye week and a looming showdown against Utah. The O-Line is still learning how to play as a unit, the WR’s still really haven’t been incorporated into the offense, and as long as the Defense stays healthy they will keep getting better. Utah, Utah State, Boise, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Georgia Tech are all quality opponents, but all very beatable this year."



This is what I have been arguing all week and getting called stupid by Mars for it.

The point of that thread was that talent doesn't matter very much when it plays POORLY (and that less talented teams BYU will face this year will actually play much better on the field, despite pre-college scouting rankings). The statistics lay it all out pretty clearly. As does Brandon Ogletree (how many times does he mention "on paper" in that blog?).
