Special Teams

Something that has been overlooked that I found impressive was that Sorensen hit all four of his field goals, all his PAT's, and booted many balls out of the endzone. Perhaps we have some consistency in our special teams play. I hope it helps us throughout the remainder of the season.

Maybe having his back fully healed is what his game needed.

Sorensen was very impressive compared to past years. Special teams are one of my biggest concerns right now though. The punt team already cost us a game and Texas was very close to blocking a few punts. (They did tip one according to the ref).



Utah will look to take advantage of this and will be gunning for a blocked kick. Kwitt has won a lot of games using special teams. A blocked punt is a huge game changer.

IMO the utah game always comes down to special teams and turnovers. The last time BYU beat utah Chambers had a field day returning punts. It was THE difference in that particular game. We had a chance to tie/win last year with a relatively "easy" FG. A turnover in 2010 would have sealed the game and BYU HAD that turnover until (I forget the guys name) coughed up the interception. 2011 was just turnover after turnover. 2012 had another botched snap go for a TD.

Sure seems like Arellano has a slow wind up. I think BYU sees more blocked punts until something changes there.

The interception by Brandon Bradley ended up being the fumble that never was. Brandon's knee was down before the ball came out and the officials really screwed BYU with that one--even after the replay clearly showed Brandon down before the "fumble".

Bradley! thanks. I know it should have been called down (much like the reception vs UCLA in 08?) but just hold onto the ball. Taking a knee would have sealed that game.

It looks deathly slow. I freak out every time.

Wittingham is in love with scouting out special teams. this is what won him the utah state game. we need to be prepared for this.
