What we can expect from Offense going forward

I believe that the OL was the difference in the TX game. The OL now has swagger and confidence after manhandling the UT defense. What was missing in previous seasons and against UVA is the way the OL played fast, but held their block and got some serious push past LOS. In fact, many OL were continuing to push the pile and knock people over when play appeared dead. The RB/QB also picked up on the attitude and ran possessed.



Benefit of 99 plays, 679 total yards, and defeating a talented TX team, carries over for rest of season. If OL can sustain nastiness and avoid injury, they will dominate DL. While many will say stack the line against the Y, remember the AF, UNR and Navy teams who regularly churned out 350-400 yards/game despite opposing teams knowing they relied on the rushing game. Execution and attitude are the keys and Anae hasn't opened up the playbook yet with the 3rd option of passing by QB after making read on DE and deciding whether to pitch or pass. The 4th Q, when Hill was 4-9 is likely a scenario that we will see in the future. We eliminate turnovers and tighten up our DB cushion play, and we be become a juggernaut. Will be interesting to see what plans Anae/2J dial up for Yewts.

I expect us to have some games where the running attack will get stuffed. It's only one game where we've been good so I don't think we are in a position after 3 years of futility to assume much about our Oline. It's quite possible they revert back vs. Utah. I think the offense will try to develop the passing game to Hoffman a lot more going forward. We'll need this for our tough road games later in the season.

This will be a run-first offense. That's our strength given our OL and QB's arm.



We can expect a lot of run plays. Teams will load up the box. My hope is rather than be stubborn about it and still try to pound it up the middle anyways, Anae will be quick to recognize teams stacking the middle and exploit it accordingly. Under such circumstances, even those passes out to the flats ought to produce 3 - 4 yards.

Only difference that I see is having Lasike run up middle and have JW take pitches to the outside edge (i.e. capitalizing on strengths of both players).

Our TEs are still MIA. Perhaps if teams stack the line the TEs will be more open? I think the passing game will improve--and that's got to really freak out opposing team DCs....

I need to see 2 good scoring games in a row, and preferably one on the road for once before I believe this game was anything but a fluke. Whitt is too good a coach to let us run all over them...unless we really are as good as we saw on Saturday.
