runbyu11) Taysom is the real deal athletically. I now understand why he is starting when virtually everyone who watched spring and fall camp said that Olsen was better.
2) Taysom's pass stats are worse than he is playing. Oline breakdowns for early pressure, throwaways, and far too many dropped passes contributed. That said, he has a LONG way to go and we will lose games if he doesn't get better. Interestingly, Steve Young was apparently not a very good passer at first either.
3) Apo is just not great, and the receivers disappointed once again...so much for the "strength of the offense." Watching a hobbled Hoffman go aggressively after a ball was a night and day difference to watching Apo.
4) Ridley is legit. The guy catches anything thrown in his vicinity.
5) The O-Line was INCREDIBLE at run blocking! Unfortunately they were TERRIBLE at pass blocking and the multiple false starts were unacceptable. Taysom was running for his life or under pressure almost immediately on most pass plays.
6) Povey is a great open field tacker and hits hard, but he is WAY TOO SLOW to be playing corner.
7) Texas could have taken 8 yards on every play throwing to Povey's side of the field until we were forced to tighten it up, and then they could've bombed over the top every time.
8) Rob Daniel is better than we could have hoped. However, due to the scheme, most any team that wants to play the short passing game can take that all day long. The ESPN announcers were incredulous that TX wasn't abusing us for taking such big cushions between the receivers and the DB's.
9) Paul Lasike was impressive, and Jamaal continues to impress. Hopefully Lasike can develop in to this team's version of Manase Tonga while still being able to run up decent chunks of yardage like he did last night.
10) Props to the fans for not rushing the field
11) Our D-Line and Linebackers may actually be just as good, if not better than last year. Even without Ziggy. We shall see. Kaufusi and Manumaleuna were all over the place.
12) Daniel Sorenson was great and Bills was solid. Does anyone know why Morgan played so much?
13) Coaching. Defensive calls were great. Offensive play calling was great for the most part but puzzling at times as well. I would've stepped on the throat on that 4th and inches instead of settling for a field goal, but that was a fair enough call considering our defense.
14) Obvious that they were Big12 Ref's keeping TX in the game. The running in to the kicker, pass interference, obvious clipping and multiple other no calls were puzzling to say the least. Then the clipping called on us where our boy pulled back and didn't hit the guy. Which other calls did I miss? I felt like all of us watching the game together were shaking our heads the whole game at the officiating.
15) Props to Sorenson for showing that he really is a good kicker when healthy. Balls in the uprights and through the back of the end zone were beautiful to see. Arellano is solid too.
