The Impact of the VA Loss

Seems like the loss to VA created a chip on the team's shoulder and made them focus extra hard in preparation for TX. It appeared that it was a blessing in disguise - especially enjoyed the performance of the much maligned OL and TH redemptive game. The weather factor/delay of game also may have had an impact on TX team in not coming out as fired up.

Although it would have been nice if we could have had our heads screwed on straight last week and still play the same today vs. the Longhorns.

The longer the season goes on, the more everyone is going to know that that game was a fluke.

Even with bad weather, we should have won that game. Very disappointing loss.

Impact of the VA loss = renewed focus, concentrated effort & a quiet, determined anger to prove this team has what it takes.



Tonight was a big step in the right direction. Next contest - Utah. Let's see if we can continue to perform at this level. I have every expectation the Cougs are on the path to a special year. There is still a lot of football to play - but - defeating Texas in the dominating manner that we did sends a strong message.

I believe that if we had won against Virginia, we would have lost to Texas tonight. Losing to Virginia forced Bronco, Anae, and the team to take a hard look at themselves and fix what needed fixing.

Answer: a BCS bowl game if not an outside shot at a NC.

This BYU team didn't beat and blow out a good Texas team bc it lost to UVA. A team doesn't dominate Texas bc it lost to a poor ACC team. It may have helped, but this BYU team is really good. AND it flat out gave away a great season bc it was looking past UVA , called a conservative, short play book game, and then made a choke call at 3rd and 7 when they had a veritable Heisman candidate leashed up and held back the whole game.

Answer: massive squandering of a game that should never have gotten away.

Mistakes happen. Okay to make them as long as you don't make twice. Good to see the team respond and we get a week off to prepare for Utah.

I don't think so. I think the whole VA game might have been an anomaly. We'll see going forward what happens.

Bronco admitted that the VA loss forced them to take a hard look at themselves and fix what needed fixing. There's still a question about whether we would have lost to Texas, but there's no way the O-line gets the makeover it needed for this game, at the very least.

One thing is for sure. Anae and 2N were upset after the loss, took the blame, and said it would never happen again. They retooled the OL - not sure this would have happened if we scraped by VA in the first game.

Even if Williams catches that pass and we hang on to win 16-12, I think we still make major changes on the o-line. They were completely ineffective almost the entire game, a fact Anae and Tujague surely noticed independent of the scoreboard. Could we be 2-0 right now? Absolutely. We're a caught pass or late 3rd down run call away from that, despite the terrible o-line play in Virginia.
