So, what is the right amount of plays?

BYU ran 93 plays and lost. 7 other teams ran 88 or more plays. Only one of those teams won.



Oregon, the impetus of the go fast, go hard methodology, ran less than 80.



I believe the right amount of plays lies somewhere between 75 and 85. It means that you're picking up chunks of yardage.



For this offense to be successful, the team needs at least 5 explosive (more than 20 yards) plays, and between 10 to 15 plays between 8 and 20 yards a game.



Anae's play calling did not allow for these types of plays to happen. QB accuracy, bad hands by receivers, and poor OL play didn't help.

However many it takes to win and no more, no less. You can be successful running 90 plays and you can be successful running 60 plays. I really don't believe there's a magic number.

You generally only run 90 plays in a game if you aren't getting large chunks of yardage.

93 plays is absolutely ridiculous for a BYU offense... what's wrong with Anae??? An even bigger question is what's wrong with Bronco... is he that blind and ill-informed when it comes to offensive football? He and Robert are making it an offensive offense! Not only should BYU NOT be running 93 plays, Anae should never have called the play he did on 4th and 6 when Hill had been erratic all game long and over-throwing guys which, given the play call, if you don't make a perfect throw, it's going to get picked. The ball was also quite wet and slippery... wasn't smart at all, and where was Bronco to step in and say 'uh, we're punting the ball and letting the D win this thing for us'??? No way was Virginia going to go 80 yards for a TD with just under 3:00 to go... no way.
