Jerseys: Spirit, Honor, Tradition

What do you think of the news that BYU jerseys will read "Spirit," "Honor," or "Tradition" this year instead of players names?

Is this for reals?



I like it for team "unity"



I don't like messing with a classic uniform



I also don't like having to ask "Wow great play!, Who is that guy?" and the answer will be "Tradtion" lol

i don't like it from a fans perspective. So many new players year in and out that I like the last names to see who is doing what (without a game program handy)



As a player I'm sure is helps with the "team" concept.



It would force ESPN announcers to do a lot of homework before games!

It is 100% confirmed from BYU, so it's a done deal.

This is beyond stupid. I love the concept but not so in your face. It is embarrassing to be honest. This is worse than the question for perfection. I love Bronco but this is just ridiculous and in my opinion it is just going to backfire. it brings unwanted attention as well. Stupid Stupid Stupid!

I have never been for the firing of Bronco Mendenhall...until right now.

I don't like it. I think it is pretty lame. But if we win lots of games and the players like it then I don't really care. But if they players hate it, then I would hope the coaches would value their opinion. Sounds like players did not even know till the jerseys were brought out. It is just going to make the game programs at the game that much more valuable.

Sheeesh. Church this Sunday is going to be fun here in Salt Lake County. I may get sick Saturday night.

I bothers me less than the "NCAA" patch on the left shoulder where other teams have their conference patch. Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with no conference patch, but "NCAA"? Really? Is there anyone on the entire planet who that is informative to?

I'm not a fan of it, but you want to fire Bronco over it? Really?

Terrance Brown just tweeted that Bronco tried to do it a few years ago and the players voted no. can you imagine recruiting someone knowing this is the Jersey they are going to have to wear. It is an unbelievably bad move. it just puts a target on the program. I am beside myself.

Yeah, I don't like that the players voted no, and they still decided to do it. Dave Noriega also tweeted that initial reactions from players is not good about the jerseys. I did not like it to begin with. If they players don't like it, then I hate it.

News coming out that Bronco did this without telling the players. While I am not a fan of this on the jersey, I am really against doing things like this without the consent of the players. Shows that he knew it would not have been what they wanted but did it anyway which is bad management in any circumstance. I hope he changes his mind and gives the players the chance to have input on this in the future. Saying right now that it will never change as long as he is coach.

All I can think of is Utah's blackout game against TCU in 2010 when they put a bunch of loyalty, honor, etc. words on their jersey's and then proceeded to get destroyed in the "biggest game in the state of Utah history".

When I was there (about 93) the players voted to take the names off of the back and the stickers off of the helmets "for team unity." My recollection is that we've had names off of the jerseys a couple of time but never for too long

It's great for guys whose last name is Tradition, Spirit, and Honor.



If they wanted to do it right they should have Tradition, Spirit, and Honor in the language they spoke on their mission.

Wouldn't it be funny if one's last name were "Tradition" but he was given "Spirit"?

Last year I had to put up with all of my friends making fun of how bad Riley Nelson was, and now it looks like this year I get to put up with everyone making fun of our awful jerseys. It's like Bronco personally hates me.



I can not stress how much I dislike this decision. Nothing screams "tradition" or "honor" like taking your name off the back of your jersey.
