Is 2j going to be indecisive?

@drewjay: BYU OL coach Tujague said he may rotate centers this season as Terrance Alletto and Vaitai have shown well.



Certainly I am overreacting at this point but I hate hearing crap like this. It sounds like indecision to me. I say pick one and get them the reps.

With this offense, there will be at least two playing center. They have to rotate the line.

This. Must have two prepped and ready. He will name a starter. But two will play.

I hop all this rotating and gong fast doesn't backfire. It seems that execution would really have to take a hit.

I don't think it will backfire but I don't think it will be an instant success. There will be some growing pains and it will feel some time to gel. I think the start of the season will be painful.

Robert Anae said that he used to rotate 10 offensive lineman at Texas Tech. It isn't like it hasn't been done before.

Thus, the whole "trust me" mantra. I do think there will be some growing pains. I just don't know how it will manifest itself.

At some level, Anae has previously or is currently saying to Bronco and the rest of the coaching staff, "Trust me, I can get this done." I think we will see in Broncos comments in interviews in about two weeks whether or not it is gelling or concerned.

I believe nothing out of coaches during fall camp. We heard a lot of good stuff last fall (and the fall beforse that, and the fall before that, and...) and then the WSU game showed otherwise.



I will believe it when I see it on the field. If we struggle or lose the first game, we are in for a very long season.

They've had two practices. I think it's a bit early to wonder if coaches are indecisive. They haven't even had players in shoulder pads yet.

I don't think the center will be rotating between plays. I would assume the rotations would come between series. Otherwise, you detract from your "go hard, go fast" with your own substitutions.



Hard and fast is going to mean more guys seeing the field and more guys taking series off to recover a bit.

Jake Kuresa's thoughts on 2j's comments:

If u can't find a better way 2 motivate than making the most talented guy think he wont play via camp interviews we will struggle again.

Stop w/these fake battles 2"motivate". ITS VAITAI&HILL! Sacrificing reps between C&QB? Find another way 2 motivate &start the talent! #FedUp

Contextual decision. If there have been several quick, taxing, series by the O, and that player is gassed look for a sub. There has to be some continuity. Gotta believe Anae gets that as well as KuJ, I mean 2J. ;)

WHOA! Whether or not Kuresa is right is a seperate issue from the fact that based on his scathe which has to be based on inside info, Kuresa just opened himself to get cut off from whatever access he's basing that on. That's dam_ing info.

They've had two practice sessions. Kuresa should chill a bit. What does he want? Exclusive starters named prior to camp starting and before players have taken any reps?



Should coaches just assign the starters arbitrarily and give them all the reps and screw the backups - I mean, they're just backups after all.



Sounds like Kuresa doesn't want position battles. Just start the guys he thinks are the best - whether they prove it on the field or not.



Let's wait a few weeks. There's a good chance practice reps will start leaning one way or the other after coaches have more than a few sessions - in helmets only - of film to evaluate.

Maybe these are some sour grapes or shots from the cheap seats by kuresa for not getting 2J's job??? Or just Poly pride and prejudice?

This. Offense and Defense. I feel bad for the DBs, actually. Not enough depth to sub them out.

There is not indecision at all. All positions are open and competition is the mantra. Anae already stated that he shuffled in 10 OL while at TT. He has indicated that style would likely be applied at the Y. Therefore, it would seem likely that center position would be one of the positions where substitution is applied.



Alletto has been playing center since 2nd grade...he understands how to read the defense and put players in position. He is a natural leader. Vaitai was previously a guard before being put in center position. While MV may be physically more impressive in stature, he is not in the same condition as Alletto...and Alletto has a great work ethic. 2J is riding MV the hardest in camp, and it is designed to motivate him to get into shape. If he and Alletto are even going into opening game, look for both of them to play. It is also noted that B. Kearsley has a shot to be within the 10-player OL rotation as well.

I haven't made my mind up yet whether he's indecisive or not... (wink, wink)



From what I've been told, Vaitai is bigger and stronger, but Alletto makes less mistakes and is in better shape. If Vaitai can condition his body and get his mind consistent (along with the center-QB football-to-hands exchange), it's his job. If not, he'll be a nice change of pace once the offense runs for a while and both our center and the opposing d-linemen are tired...
