Just watched 2001 BYU vs Utah game...

for the first time in my life (mission). Wow, does that game typify the rivalry the last 10 years or what? Missed deep balls that would have changed the entire complexion of the game, turnovers, and underachieving line play on both sides. Rice had all day to throw while Doman was running [creepy how much he looked just like RN] for his life.



Utah, imo, has a perennially good defense so they're going to be stout but they seem to always be able to shut us down where it matters on the scoreboard--because the yards seem to generally favor us.



It really sucked to watch even though I knew what was going to happen. We were the better team and never should have been down 2 scores with 5 minutes left. I sincerely hope we can eventually just punch them in the mouth beatdown style like they do to us. The '96 game is the only one I am aware of in the last 20 years where we were clearly the better team and then translated that to the game.



Hopefully, we use our BYE week to grow a pair this year. The way I see it Utah is now our big brother and it would be tragic if we allow that to last any longer.

I do not regard them as our big brother. I consider the past three years as a highly improbable series of events that cannot continue. The rules of probability indicate that BYU is due for a change of fortunes against the 'tards. I have faith in the new offensive coaching staff, meaning that I trust Anae to properly prepare our guys to perform in the trenches so that the Utes will feel like they've been kicked in the teeth afterward. The performance of the defensive staff is already proven.

Agreed. Just look at the ridiculous string of events that happened just in the 4th quarter in 2010 - the punts bouncing sideways off of a blocker then recovered by :utard: , interceptions that are then "fumbled" (stupid replay officials), etc etc. That game made something clear to me that I had already suspected - :utard: sold their souls to the devil in exchange for low-probability plays becoming common place and in their favor, particularly against BYU. utah game plans for BYU all off season. The bye is going to help us but this is still going to be our hardest game of the year. kwitt learned long ago that as long as he beats BYU his job is fairly safe so he makes it the most important game all year and the utes play on the field shows it. If utah had played as well in their pac 12 sched the last 2 years as they played against us the last 2 years they would have been at the top of their division.
