BYU-USC series in 2019

This is interesting to me November? Whats the implicatiom here with the frutes and the rivalry game I thought Pac could only play Notre Dame after September? Ideas? Thoughts I am interested in hearing them.

The Provo game is sept. The USC games are Nov. The question is what can the U do or do they want to do with their schedule. Or does USC have more power over Scott. Could be he signed off since it was a 2 for 1 deal.

Maybe the Utes know they have to dumb down their schedule as much as possible to stave off becoming bowl intelligible too early.

I would not go 2-1 with anyone. Having said that - if they come here first, then at least we will for sure get them in Provo once.



Then they will probably beg Utah to move their USC games to Provo.

I would negotiate a little harder. I like the deal and the November dates. I would have asked that they throw in a bball trip to Provo.

I wonder how good the 3rd and 4th graders who will be suiting up for the 2023 game will be.

I hear Kiffin is about ready to offer some of those 3rd graders. My autocorrect changed Kiffin to Muffin. He is not well liked here in PAC10.2 country.

Hoping we'll get some probing media types to figure out how BYU got games with SC in November. Breaking that PAC 10.2 stranglehold is huge.



This whole deal calls out Utah for the pansies they are and makes a November rivalry game a possibility. I despise the level of hype, hate and hoopla of the rivalry, but as far as quality of excitement and entertainment of the football game itself, it's hard to top.

I don't think Utah has the pull in the PAC12 to be allowed to play BYU in November. And I think the Utes are quite happy with the cover the PAC12 is giving them.

Long Live Lane Kiffin. Maybe he will have USC on probation with even more scholarship limitations and caught in a downward spiral. More likely he gets himself fired before we play them and they get a better coach.

I looked at the other PAC 12 team schedules to see if there were any other late-season scheduling opportunities. At first glance, there doesn't seem to be much need for the PAC 12 to allow any other late season deals with BYU.



For instance, in 2013, USC plays at Notre Dame on October 19. Colorado has a bye that week. Perhaps BYU could play Colorado on October 19. But, it is actually a good week for a bye, as it is right at the midseason point. So, no need for any scheduling arrangements there.



Likewise, Notre Dame plays at Stanford on November 30. The rest of the PAC 12 plays the various rivalry games and Cal has a bye. Perhaps BYU could play Cal on November 30! But, I saw that Cal will have played 9 straight games and would not want to play BYU that weekend.



BUT THEN, it hit me. Cal plays NINE STRAIGHT PAC 12 games?!? This is where BYU fits in. If the PAC 12 adjusted its conference schedule to give Cal a midseason bye (like the rest of the conference), a BYU-Cal game on November 30 would make a lot of sense. To create room for the Cal mid-season bye, the PAC 12 schedulers would need to move one or two conference games to be played earlier in September. This has the potential to open up another spot or two in October or November for a BYU-PAC 12 game. But regardless, a deal with Cal would make a lot of sense.



So, here's what needs to be done - BYU needs to convince Cal and UCLA that they need a mid-season bye during the PAC 12 schedule so that they're not playing 9-straight conference games in the years when Stanford and USC, respectively, host Notre Dame to end the season. Then, get 2-game, home-home deals with Cal and UCLA to play Thanksgiving weekend. Each deal would need to be over at least a three-year period, because they will be playing a rivalry game that weekend in the years where a end-of-season Notre Dame game isn't involved. For illustration purposes:

Nov. 28
