sageI have a unique privilege of knowing several people who get to see the inside doings of some of the teams at BYU. I have a friend who was able to go back to NY and see a lot of what happened when Ziggy attended the draft. I wish to be careful at what I say, because I don't want to lose the chance to hear things from him from the inside scoop so to speak.
But I thot you guys might be interested in a few of his observations. He was able to sit in the interview room where the media interviews all the draftees after they are drafted. Even tho Ziggy was taken fifth, he was not interviewed till about the ninth spot. This friend was amazed at the interviews. My impression of his comments is that most of these guys that were taken in the top selections are "dumber than dirt". He was kind of in awe. He said the second guy taken could only complain about how he should have been first. yadayadayada. It amazed my friend that here was a guy who was going to be paid untold millions, who was talking to news reporters (of all people to complain to) and all he could talk about was being slighted to be chosen second instead of first. (No wonder Reid didn't want the guy.)
When Ziggy got to the interview, he said he handled it very well, and came off as an intelligent humble man. He had to answer questions and even explain what actuarial science is. What a contrast for the media. From dumb dirt to scientific analysis.
It was a huge whirlwind.
In order to get what BYU wanted out of the draft, BYU would have had to pay a lot of money to others to get it. It ended up being cheaper and a lot more effective sending my friend back to get them. Good publicity in the long run will pay off.
He also talked about the incredible experience he had at the BYU ballroom competition in England, but that is for another forum.
