Mike Hague - Medical Redshirt official

His tweet to the right says its now official, he was granted his medical hardship. Nice to gain a little extra depth. How does this impact the D?

If he stays healthy he will either start at corner if a true corner is not ready to step up or he will be number 2 behind starters at 2 or 3 different safety or cb positions.

It's my experience that it's rare for a player to be moved out of his traditional position in football...and end up doing much. Hague is a great athlete, but he never played corner or defense until last year? Even Ziggy, with all his amazing physical tools, took three years to do anything. Had he started a year later, we'd never even remember who he was.

Safety is actually Hague's natural position. He switched to fullback a couple years ago just to try to see the field. Based on the fact that he never was able to crack the starting line up on defense means he probably won't do anything special, but he will be serviceable in the secondary. I'd prefer him as a safety or nickleback over a corner. If he is starting at corner we probably have an issue in the secondary this year.

Bad news. Mike just had another knee surgery and will not be ready for the start of the season.
