BYU Offers Center Ryan Andrus Schollie

Ht/Wt 6'9"/200 - Center

Class of 2014

American Fork HS, UT

Has tendered offers from USU, Utah, Boise St. and now BYU. Would be a nice replacement for Ian Howard.

Projected to play one year and then serve a mission.

Hmm a 6'9" center at 200 lb? Are we in a Josh Sharp situation?



Hmm just watch a highlight video from him as a Sophomore. He should be able to put on some weight. Looked like an average D1 athlete. Sounds like a depth guy.

Davies was 6'7" and 200 lbs coming out of PHS. This kid does have time to grow a bit more before he sees the floor at the Marriott Center.



That said, one of my biggest, longest-lasting frustrations with Rose is the fact that our 5 is always a 4 anywhere else in the country.

I understand what you're saying but it's kind of a national trend. There just aren't that many true 5's anymore. I understand the NBA is considering eliminating that position for all star voting because all the bigs consider themselves 4's. You look at basketball college or pro and you see the bigs playing as 4's. Really since Shaq I don't see anyone who seems happy to stay in the low post and own'that area. They all want to fly out on the wings and shoot 3's as well as take it to the hole, and for the most part are able to do it.



So I don't see this as a real problem as long as we can beef up these kids so that they don't get pushed around.

I understand that, and I think much of it goes back to the "no-contact" zone the NBA implemented as well as the general increase in tempo of the game at all levels. That said, anytime BYU plays a top-100 RPI team, it seems that one of the concerns is how we are going to deal with their length in the front-court. Even with the downsizing of the 5s across the board, BYU is still playing what would be a 4 at most other respectable programs.

250 lb 7 footers don't grow on trees. And, if you are that big and that coordinated enough to play D1 basketball you can pretty much have your pick of schools. There aren't a lot of LDS 7 footers either. If you are over 6' 10", LDS, and play basketball reasonably well, Rose probably knows about you and either he or someone on his staff has talked to you. It's how we got Harward, Miles, etc. On average, these are basically the best bigs BYU can get.
