Bowfishing?

Anyone on the board do any bowfishing? I was introduced to it by a brother-in-law earlier this year, and I'm "hooked".



Just curious if anyone else was into it--I prefer to do it with someone else for safety's sake with all the wading, etc., so I'm trying to put a list of confederates together.

No. I've never met anyone that has done it. Do you wear chest high fishing waders? Is the season the same as the regular trout season? It sounds interesting.

I don't go chest-high--with a bow if you're going that deep you're gonna need a boat. There are no "seasons," in that you can go year round, but you are limited to "nongame" fish in Utah--so no trout. The best thing to go after in Utah County is the carp in Utah Lake, so you pay a bit more attention to those spawns, which you would generally ignore otherwise as an angler.



It's addicting as all get out though--adds the stalking element to fishing and keeps my bow skills somewhat intact. It's made me appreciate going back to the recurve bow as well. I don't think I'll ever do compound again, with any type of game.

Ok. Wow. I find that fascinating. Carp eh? I can see that. I guess the fly fisherman would scream holy hell if bow fishermen were taking trophy brown and rainbow trout out of the Provo River. :lol: Sacrilege.



Carp though - it's like shooting coyote's - nobody cares. Hey, If I lived up there in Provo, I'd buy a bow and sign up. It sounds like lots of fun. And, they say carp is good eating. I've never tried it though.

I have been a few times, borrowed somebodies rig to attach to my stabilizer on my bow. When I couldn't borrow the rig i just used an old heavy arrow with a 2 blade broadhead. It was a blast! went down to the wild wings area in springville to hunt carp during the spawn. I know a few other areas to go. I havent shot my bow in a few years. Would be fun to dust it off and see what i remember

I never have liked machine bows. They are very efficient and effective but not as fun for me. You can get a lot more arrows off with a traditional bow. I have 3 recurves including a little Browning Cobra. If I lived down there I'd sure like to join you. Isn't this other sports, just not exactly at byu. Send reports and film if you get them.
