Rank the 2013 Schedule

We've got 12 weeks before the season opener. Time to see what you all are thinking is our toughest game. We'll go in reverse order. Each week, we'll update the question and post the results in the thread.



So which of these games is the LEAST difficult?



Records and rankings are from the 2012 season.

I think this first game is pretty easy to guess the results. I don't think anyone can argue that a home game against Idaho St (one of the worst D1 teams in the nation) should pose any threat of being a difficult game.



I'd put BYU's chances of victory at close to 100%. The only question here might by how much does the BYU defense outscore the Idaho St offense.

I hope I'm not wrong in this prediction. I said Idaho St., but having flashbacks to Michigan/App. St., but I am pretty sure we'll win, by 50

This - but two have voted otherwise. I get the U vote. You had to know someone would pick them. But Middle Tennessee State would beat Idaho State about 35-3. The answer is Idaho State and there is not even a question about this one.

Idaho State - no question. A one-win FCS program.



The next round should be interesting, as there are 4 or 5 teams in contention and a good mix of home and road games and timing and other factors to consider.

What is most different this season is that other than Idaho State - take one of these teams lightly and they could beat you.



As usual, there are very few games where our chances are slim to none. There are a bunch that could go either way.

Teir 1 (games we will win): Idaho St

Teir 2 (games we should win, but a loss is possible): UVA, Middle Tennessee, Nevada, Houston, Georgia Tech

Teir 3 (games we likely could lose, but a win wouldn't surprise me): USU, Utah, Boise, Notre Dame

Teir 4 (games we should lose, but a win is possible): Wisconsin, Texas

What the yewt? Likely losses to Usu and Utah? Not buying it. How many times has USU beat BYU in Logan in the last 20 years again? And Utah is always a toss up game, not a likely loss game.



I put both those games in Tier 2.

Totally agree with everything but the spelling of Tier and ND should be Tier 4 since it is a road game.

I put both those games in Tier 2.

BYU vs Utah 0-3 lately including a beat down. Why quibble. Note that he did not have a tier for a toss-up so you have to lean to one side or the other in this poll. And he said, LIKELY COULD lose not WILL or WOULD. So why quibble.



The number of times USU whooped us up in Logan mirrors how often they have gone to bowl games and or been ranked. Not much. But things have changed lately. We are lucky that we are not 0-3 there. Thank Riley and thank an amazing defensive effort. Last time we played there they whipped Jake Heaps and got Jaime Hill fired. And, there is no 50 50 Tier.



I think BYU will beat Utah and USU with a confidence level of 51% and expect USU to be as tough or tougher than U. The coaching changes in Logan could return them to mediocrity but BYU had a little shake-up in the staff too. USU has the better QB considering talent / experience.

I thought about ND being top tier until they lost the QB.

This is definitely a BCS level schedule. We probably won't see another schedule this good, especially at home, for probably another 8 or 9 years, if ever.

You are probably right about the at home part. 2fers will give us a schedule this tough frequently - but 2 of 3 of the more interesting games continue to be roadies.

If we replaced Mid Tenn and I State with and two of Colorado, Wash State, UNLV, SDSU, AFA, New Mexico, Wyo, CSU, AFA, this schedule would be even better and depending which 2 you picked, not not much riskier. I would love to see Colorado and Wash State in those slots or UNLV.

He creates arguably The best schedule ever for a BYU team, (great home games, very strong SOS without it being murderous, even catching some good timing with some of the programs with QBs down and out, new coaches, etc) and you have the temerity to suggest it could be improved?

For the most part, I agree. So Sub UNLV for Idaho State and Colorado for Mid Tenn and it looks better, feels better, and may even be less risky. BTW - I have no issue with ISU and Mid Tenn. I already think the schedule is too tough. But UNLV sounds better than ISU and is bad enough to not add much danger. Mud Tenn might actually beat Colorado.
