Golson is gone. No longer enrolled at the university according to ESPN. This is crazy stuff. I would expect that there is much more to this story.

Well, it's got to be worse than a fake girlfriend....

We'll hear what it is soon, as the only real investigative journalism done in the world now is in sports journalism. It would be great if some of these guys went after some of the political things going on.

This has to be a big + for BYU when they meet Notre Dame on Nov. 23. ND just lost last years starting QB Problem is, it's game the 11th game of the season. Plenty of time to iron out QB problems. Overall though, IMHO, it helps the Cougs chances for a W in South Bend.

Didn't Gholsen miss the BYU game last year anyway? They have Tommy Rees, who can be pretty effective.

Te'o tried to stop Golson from cheating, but he missed tackling the opportunity... imagine how badly they'll get beaten in their inflated and overmatched bowl game without Golson.





Seriously, he must have done something pretty bad. ND has looked the other way a long time with a lot of their athletes. Jimmy Clausen was involved in fights, alcohol related arrests, etc. didn't miss a game. Same with several other athletes that got caught cheating, drinking, fighting in that hell hole of a town.

It's gotta be something of a grievous nature. Only speculation, but the kinda stuff that falls into that category is heavy drug sales (would be in jail), felony theft (would be in jail), sexual assault (would be in jail). Who knows. Maybe he just didn't go to class, do his homework, got suck-o grades, and academically is ineligible. He is a youngster and the youngsters do foolish things.

If he was academically ineligible, they could have suspended him from the team, not booted him. There is certainly something more grievous here. Notre Dame tried to snuff out the Teo story (ineffectively) so I'd bet we'll find out the truth on this soon enough regardless of what ND attempts with their whitewash.

Rumor is he handed in someone else's final exam paper. Sounds like something academic.

Yes lat in of the season (11th game), but that is also a time when a lot of schools are in hitting the 2-deep at the QB. If that's the case for ND, the 2-deep just got a lot less deep.

you could also mention that BYU's defense hits hard, while I don't think it's dirty to hit hard, nor do I think we try to cause injury, I think BYU defense made an opposing QB sit for at least a down if not much longer to get over a hit.



But then, our track records against backup qbs is not very good...Not so sure about backup to backup qbs.

Iirc, a different ND QB announced that he was transferring due to being sruck behind Golsen. Not sure. I will try to find out.

Gunner Kiehl transferred to Cincinnati. Maybe he will transfer back without ever enrolling.

Rees, Hendrix, and Zaire are still there. Kiehl and Golsen will be gone. Rees is a senior with previous starting experience that had flashes but was inconsistent as a starter. But now he has another year under his belt. Hendrix sounds like a back-up QB - not a starter, but is a jr. Zaire is a 5 star freshman. Kiehl texted to the Cinci newspaper that he is still a bearcat. He will sit out this year - but the competition - 2 seniors - graduate there this next season.



ND seems to have a very deep bench considering that they lost 2 of their 3-deep.



Golsen was a dual threat QB. Rees - not so much.



News just quoted Golsen as stating he was dismissed for "poor academic judgement".

Based upon the ESPN article from yesterday, Gholson is gone only for Fall of 2013 semester, and back 2014 winter semester. One semester suspension.



And from his comments in that article, it sounds like academic cheating was an issue. I'd guess plagiarism if I had to put money on it. Far more common in the internet era than anything else out there.



Sounds like ND took the right stance, and I am glad they are giving him a 2nd chance to make right. This was a well handled scandal. If this were the SEC, we'd be talking about the A he got for cheating instead.

ND was lucky not to be 8-4 last year, they were certainly no number 2 contender. If BYU can have even an above average offense this year, they will beat ND.

ND back-up - now starter again - Rees, has more experience than all BYU QBs combined. They also have a 5* Freshman and a couple of other reserves. We will need more than an average offense, a lousy kicker, and a reloading defense to beat them in South Bend. Too bad they are not coming to Provo this year as they should be.



ND will not be as good as they were last year. Overall, BYU will be about the same or slightly better than last year. Last year we caught ND early and in QB transition. ND got better as the season went on. Home Field advantage - again. We will need an exceptional performance and The Luck of the Irish to win this one.



Deja Vu. I got ridiculed for predicting that last year too - when most BYU fans predicted that ND was over-rated and far from our toughest opponent.

Drama. They weren't our toughest opponent the day we played them.

ESPN analysts today indicated this is "a big loss" for ND.

They sure did. Their chances for winning NC dropped from about 5% to 2 1/2%. BYU chances remained at about 0.5%. This does help our chances. ND will still be favored.
