Mika East Team MVP

Ya and 5 blocks! That may be as important if not more so than the 5 dunks. They said he was an unlikly mvp. They must have missed what he'd been doing to the nation's best high school teams. I'm getting more optimistc about next years team. We'll have Mika, Austin and Worthington in the hole. They will have good offense and it will be hard to get past them when we're on defense. Haws will be dropping the ball in from mid range and Carlino will be orchestrating the whole thing. I believe Collinsworth wil have a role that may get bigger as he gets in Haws (who I hope is his personal trainer) shape.

The 2013-14 BYU team will be significantly better than this past team. Haws is a great player, Collinsworth is light years ahead of Zylstra, Carlino will be better, Bartley will be a better backup than any we had this year, and Mika is already a better post player than Davies ever was. There is reason for excitement.



Haws and Carlino will both be Juniors, Collinsworth will be a Sophomore, Mika a freshman. That's the starting five, and they're all young

I think Mika is getting too much hype. he is physical and a good rebounder. Fit in well with his Lone Peak teammates. He will score some garbage points but he needs to work on free throws and will not yet be the low post scorer that Davies was.

Davies had some of the best low post moves in the NCAA and certainly the best low post moves of any BYU player in the last 10 years. Will take Mika a season or two before he gets near that. It's one thing to dominate in the paint against other 17 year olds. It's another to be productive against seasoned D1 players.



We'll be lucky to get more than 25 min of play from Mika and 8 pts a night.



As streaky as Zylsta was, he's a better shooter than Collinsworth. Sharp shoots better than Collinsworth and I really doubt Collinsworth's shot got better while not playing basketball.



I think our team next season will be about as good as were this last season.

I wanted to share an experience I had today without starting a new thread, and this seems as good a place as any, so here it goes:



As many of you know, I moonlight as a sportswriter for a local lacrosse publication, covering mostly high school and the occasional college game in Utah County. Today were the state semifinal games and Lone Peak was playing, but with a new player on their team that I had not seen before. I said to one of my buddies "how tall do you think #33 is?" He responded "at least 6'8", you don't know his story? That's Eric Mika." Yep, he's been suiting up for lacrosse between tournaments, and he got a hat trick on the night, to boot. Kinda cool.

Wow, that's interesting. He's quite the athlete, but I can't help but wonder how the BYU coaching staff feels about him playing Lacrosse?

They probably can't complain, they're the ones who risked our starting DE by suiting him up for basketball this year. ;)

Deal. Bacon Avacado Burger from JCWs? You need to beat 25.3 points per game (17.7 for Davies and 7.6 for Zylstra).

How are Davies and zylstra going to score any points for BYU next year? :whistle:

The real question here is how does Freshman Mika compare to Freshman Davies. Comparing Freshman Mika to Senior Davies is unfair. Freshman Davies couln't compete with his senior-year self.



Some goes for Collinsworth - Zylstra.

But the argument being made by the Mika-ites is that he was better this year (as a high school senior) than Davies (as a college senior) and that he'll be more productive as a freshman than Davies was as a senior.
