T Hill + R Anae = Manziel Lite

I know we have a tough schedule this year. I know we have question marks on offense and defense. I don't care. I'm diving head first into the blue kool-aid pool and predicting a big year for our cougars (10+ wins), and it's all because of Taysom Hill. Doug Gottlieb had Bucky Brooks (from the NFL Network) on his radio show yesterday and they broke down Johnny Manziel from an NFL perspective. Knocks against Manziel: too short, not overly strong arm, poor footwork.



How he's succeeded at A&M: offense geared to his strengths (quick plays, ball out of his hands quickly in 5-10 yd range, deeper throws based on timing and anticipation), creative scrambler.



With Anae's faster offense, the talent we have at receiver and running back, and Hill's skills, I think we'll see a special season this year (3000+ passing w/25+ TDs, and 500+ rushing w/10+ TDs) and Hill can be our version of Johnny Football. I don't care if you poke holes in my argument, I have faith with every fiber of my being that these things will come to pass :crazy:

Manziel was above the 135 PER standard in 11 of 13 games last year. I'd be very happy with THill reaching that mark eight times - something we only did ten times in the last two years combined.

Welcome to the pool, Magnus. Not very many people in this pool as they try to act "to cool for school" but are really only masking their chicken little trauma from the last two QBs.

But you left out one very mportant key to Johnny Footballs success--"the strongest unit on the whole A&M team past year--the Oline, including an Olineman who got picked 1st in the NFL draft. The Oline was amazing. So Johnny only had to beat one or two players to make a great play.

I believe that 2J and Anae will have our Oline performing at least 40-50% better than the last few year's Oline. Mixed with Hoff, Williams, and the rest, and a QB who is twice the qb RN was, and yes, it could be a pretty big uptick for our Offense this year over last. But THill will have to be consistent with the passing game or he will be reduced to a running qb and only slightly better than Riley and probably injured, again.

Like I've said before, BYUs O goes from a 5 or 6 last year to an 8. The D goes from a 9 or 10 to an 8. And with a schedule that is only as tough as last years, taking into account home and away games, I think it could be a special season with 10 wins.

I've been on the Hill boat way longer and shackled to mast more tightly than I should be, but we haven't had a football player playing QB since 2009 so I am incredibly hopeful that this turns into something big. However, our kicking game apparently still sucks so unless our red zone TD % gets a little better we are going to drop some closes games this year. And that's BS because we have the best schedule in the history of the program coming up.

Too bad THill hurt his plant knee. He could be a triple threat on FG's and PATs as well!

Ha! Maybe we could get Bronson to do it--he's got mad skills with the round ball, maybe he's got some with his feet, too.

I honestly can't believe Bronco can't recruit a kicker. We've had two years of lousy kicking, is he somehow expecting them to be great this year? You don't need ten kickers on the team, just one, one good one. I think this is one of Bronco's failures, recruiting a top kicker.

Hill does a good job of reading defenses and knowing where to go with the ball, but his accuracy needs to improve. If he becomes a 65% passer, BYU's offense will be scary good. One thing that is often pointed out, and shouldn't be overlooked, is that he was recruited by Jim Harbaugh to run a pro style offense at Stanford. Harbaugh doesn't miss on QB talent. His history as a coach proves he knows what good QB's are at all levels.

Anae will coach Hill to a completion % >65%. I think Anae will call a LOT of short, high percentage passes in the first few games. It'll probly be a little excessive (but not as bad as his first year as OC at BYU when every pass was for 2 yards in the flat) but after Hill has a great accuracy record under his belt Anae will start firing downfield and Hill will be our hero.



Max Hall was a winner, but we haven't had a super accurate QB in short and long range since John Beck. I'm hoping Hill rises to the occasion.
