Bronco's contract

Did we ever hear if it was extended? I remember when there was the talk that they were working on an extension but I don't remember ever hearing that it happened.

Nothing yet. But I am sure it will happen over the summer.



Last I heard is that they were discussing a 5-year deal, instead of 3 like the last one.

Until the end of the Spring sports season I don't think we should expect anything. These things tend to take place in the doldrums of summer when everything slows down.



Especially given the NCAA recanting on allowing non-coach recruiting coordinators and separate recruiting departments, Bronco and Holmoe have a few more urgent fires to put out. I'd expect to hear rumblings in early to mid June.

Makes sense. My impression a few weeks/months ago was that they were expecting to get it done within that week and then it just dissapeared.

All that rule means is that the new recruiting hires can not direct contact recruits personally. What they can still do in handle the twitter feed, mailing, the texting and the emailing for other coaches who are authorized to recruit since the contact come from them to the recruit, not the new hire. In other words, they do recruiting secretarial work, making it so the coaches don't have to focus on it, and it all goes out in the name of the authorized coach.

This may not be the case, but really sounds like the University is the hold-up on the contract getting done. Do they not want Bronco? Is Anae head coach in waiting?

I really don't think this is getting enough run. Bronco has a better winning percentage than Edwards, has won 4 consecutive bowl games, and turned the program around and is getting the run around from the administration.



Does Tom want to be the coach next year? I mean, he just hired Anae for the second time over Bronco's head. Maybe he's just getting his staff together.

The fact that Bronco is talking about it with the media is disconcerting to me. Usually he's quite mum on things like this until after it's finalized. This desnews article has the feel of a "dynamite" move--trying to break things loose via the media and public opinion when private channels aren't getting you there.

It will be interesting to see if Holmoe will talk about it this afternoon. I can't imagine there's a hold up on BYU wanting him long term so it's probably money.

Or, Bronco asked for a lot of cash and TH is trying to find room in the budget. Twitter rumor was that a $10 million donation was needed to keep Bronco at BYU.

??? Is there any evidence that Anae was hired over Bronco's head this time around? I mean I can see that maybe when Bronco was initially hired that Anae's hiring was strongly suggested by the athlectic department, but did Tom really hire Anae this time?

Not sure about before, but I think Bronco is full invested in Anae now.

I still think that the legacy status of Rynolds mixed with the Rynolds and Anae feud and Anae packed his Bags and said "yo, Holmoe, smell ya later."

Yeah, my impression this time was that Anae coming back was ALL Bronco. I think he helped Reynolds retire so he could give Anae FULL control of the offense, its staff and philosophy and direction going forward.



Seems like there was some disagreement/bad blood btw Anae & Reynolds and Bronco went w/ Reynolds two years ago and is rectifying the mistakes that were the last two seasons.

Of course, we really know he was a part of the Reynolds clan's plot to subvert Anae and Heaps. Bronco has since repented of his conspiritorial actions and realized the gross mistakes he made.

That is a Yewt fan internet podcast, and website. They are trolling for hits with that. Ignore it.



But if it is accurate, $10M sounds like a 5 year deal to me. Coaches Circle donations do help pay for Bronco and Rose's salaries. So if that is the truth, it is nothing out of the norm and how BYU tries to supplement coaches pay.



My guess is that it is all down to # of years. In 2012, Bronco said he'd be fine with another 3 year deal. I bet BYU wants to lock him in for 5. Perhaps we see a 4 year deal with a 5th year option instead of having to negotiate every 3 years.



I still expect a 5 year deal.

I will say that if Holmoe et al want to wait to see the results of this season before committing to another 3-8 years, I don't blame them. The trend of the last 2 seasons or so hasn't been a good one, and we've yet to see any validation that the ship has been righted.
