BYU Will Beat Saint Mary's in 2014

The Bibster is calling it right now. BYU will beat Saint Mary's at least once in 2014.



Here is the reason I am stepping so far out on this limb and out of my realistic norm and being so boldly optimistic with almost no analysis.



SMC has to replace Dellevadova. Tough shoes to fill - whether you like the guy or not. And SMC had just the right highly touted guy sitting in the wings to try to do it. Had! SMC will lose two point guards. Dellavedova and the new guy with all of the potential. Ok. It is just potential at this point. But SMC has to find a replacement at this late date.



The guy they just lost chose SMC over UNM even though his dad was an assistant coach at UNM because he did not want to compete with his buddy who happened to be the son of his dad's boss - Steve Alford and Son. Alford took the UCLA gig and took his son with him to UCLA.



His loyal assistant coach did not follow him to UCLA and was just named the Head Coach at UNM. His son is transferring to UNM from SMC.



If we sweep SMC - not predicting that quite yet - be sure to send a thank you note to Coach Alford and his son.

And their NCAA sanctions will hurt them too.

SMC got lucky in Provo this year and we were a few bad calls away from winning win Moraga.



Without Dellawhatever and the school paying for summer workouts, SMC is toast next season.

Not a bad prediction. Hellavadova was a heck of a payer.

I agree, we'll beat SMC, we probably should have beat them this year, but SMC getting worse is bad news for the conference. WCC was a one-bid leage this year, maybe a two-bid league next year, but if SMC slides, it could be a long long time before WCC is a three-bid league again.

WCC was a two bid league this year. Both Gonzaga and SMC went this year.

Ok, here's to SMC being good enough to make it back to the dance next year but a few seeds lower than the cougs who swept them.

No worries. SMC barely squeaked in and made it to the play-in round, which they won. They then went on to lose in the 1st round.
