Some interesting notes:

Ross Apo listed backup to Skyler Ridley.



Neither Devin Mahina or Richard Wilson on the two-deep at TE.



Only three of 10 OL on the two-deep are above 300-lbs.

I'm okay with Apo being a backup. I hope it lights a fire under him but I think he has used all the fuel he has. Ridley is better.

We sure are loaded at RB - Williams, Hine, Alisa, and Lasike. I luv the options here. Rotations will keep us fresh and hopefully injury free.

Apo was definitely over-rated. I hope Ridley is better. A lot better. That remains to be seen, but he certainly showed some flash at times in 2012.

2012 Production:

Ridley: 20 catches on 30 targers, 206 yards, 1 TD, 0 INTs, 135.35 RER.

Apo: 31 catches on 61 targets, 311 yards, 1 TD, 4 INTs, 85.94 RER.

Agreed. Apo has a good freshman year but the kid seems to have lost his fire and passion. Perhaps that was Riley-induced, but he's gonna have to show something this year. Otherwise he'll continue to be Chambers 2.0.

The one thing Apo can really do to increase his production is catch the ball better. In his two years he has just 65 catches on 136 targets. His career high in catches is five (three times). Despite having been targeted seven or more times in eight different games.

+1 As long as Taysom realizes that Apo is taller than 3 1/2 feet tall his performance should go up. Hopefully this motivates Apo to be better as well and we'll see double the improvement. (No, I have no scientific evidence that Riley threw to Apo's feet more often then he threw to other peoples feet. He did seem to have a slight fettish for Ross' feet though)

And yet - Riley is gone. Totally and simply gone. And several other QBs are doing the throwing, and Ridley beat Apo out this Spring. I think it is finally time to quit blaming Apo's shortcomings on others. Doman is gone too. Drop that excuse as well.

I have to agree bib. Maybe you guys think that Riley was purposely throwing to Apo differently than Hoffman (or even Ridley)? Those two didn't seem to have a problem catching the ball.



Just another conspiracy theory to further discredit Nelson. I think you guys are giving nelson too much credit for changing his throws based on the receiver. (I personally don't think Nelson was even close to being accurate enough to try something like this). ;)

I have a feeling that mahina will work his way up in front of friel. friel is not the most motivated individual from what i hear.

The jury is out on Apo for me. He has the skills but seems soft. I know he was frustrated with the past two seasons and who wouldn't be. If he doesn't restart the fire he will never amount to much which will be a shame given his skill set. good news is that i suspect that hill is developing some good chemistry with him.
