Unprepared - Quitters

Anae was quoted as saying the players came in unprepared to deal with the speed and intensity of the new offense and set an expectation re work ethic in the rest of the off-season. I hope the recruirs coming later this summer got the memo and are working on conditioning.



He said most players responded and improved in Spring drills and that only a few quit and that he was surprised that more did not quit.

I haven't heard of any leaving the program. Weird? Maybe he was speaking to particular drills or specific practices?

It was not clear in the article - but I do not think anyone turned in their pads. Probably meant quit on a drill or on a play.



DC also mentioned that nobody is pushing injured, converted RB/S/CB Hague 4 the 4th DB slot or pushing for any of the 4 reserve DB spots and only 3 players plus maybe Hague looked ready to play a game. Razor thin at DB. Three newbies coming in the Fall. I hope some people step up.



Newbies hopefully got the memo. The opportunity is there to be had.



Kickers also did not look ready.



CB, DB depth, kicking, punting, and OL are huge questions plus QB, TE, and FB.



Rebuild. More than a reload. Hopefully, BYU has the horses.

I was in my car today and heard the replay of the Anae interview. I really think he meant that some players had actually quit/ departed the team. In the next sentence after saying quit, he said some "stayed". If he had meant that quitting was giving up on conditioning or the pace of play (or the yelling) he would not have used the word stay. He would have used something like "those players who quit on plays or conditioning have been disciplined or are coming along bt have a lot of work to do.

Not that it matters too much. I suspect the players that "quit" were non-scholie guys trying to decided if all that effort was really worth it.

When did Tushuas leave? Could he have been one of those who didn't like the new conditioning?

Good point on Blair. He had already been demoted, then worked his way back in to playing time because of injuries in front of him. Bt he was undersized and yes, probably didn't like the new regime and their scheme and intensity. A little leftover softie from Uncles Webber and Reynolds??

I was curious if those who were at the Spring game or alumni scrimmage or that know current players have any idea who he is talking about and what he meant. The unprepared comment seemed to apply broadly - the quit comment seemed more focused. But, IDK. I have someone I can ask when I get back to Cal who was at the alumni scrimmage. Perhaps he heard or saw something. I did not hear the interview - just read the quote.
