According to the BCS, BYU is still in the mix for a possible BCS bowl game.

I know a BCS bowl invitation isn't going to happen, and I think that we don't deserve to even be in the mix when this is talked about at all. (Along with some other teams on that list that have no business being there), but could somebody please tell me why in the world the BCS would say that they're still even looking at us?

Even IF TCU lost to New Mexico AND Boise State lost to Nevada (and BYU beats Utah)... and Cincy beats Pitt... and Oklahoma beats Okie State... I still don't see it.

"And among the 10 other teams still under consideration include Boise State, BYU, Iowa, LSU, Miami (Fla.), Oklahoma State, Penn State, USC, TCU and Virginia Tech."

Whether we deserve to be there or not... that's great company to be included in.

Shows that we are getting some national attention, even though we won't get it, it has to make you feel a little warm and fuzzy inside...

IF TCU lost, Boise lost and BYU won and BYU passed all of them in the BCS polls, then BYU would get the non-AQ automatic bowl. You can believe that pollsters would be more than willing to drop TCU and Boise 10+ spots for losing. Would that be enough for BYU (coupled with their win over a Top 25 Utah) to vault both teams? Possibly.

How far would a 10 spot drop in the polls be worth in the BCS poll? Maybe nine spots. So TCU would then be 13 and Boise 15. BYU is 19, I could see them jumping Boise, but I'm not sure about catching TCU.

Yeah, probably not going to happen.

I don't think they are referring to BYU even having a chance to overtake TCU or BSU for the auto bid but rather BYU still can become eligible for an at large birth. That is much more reasonable. They just have to move up 5 spots with a win over Utah. There are also several teams in front of them that will probably lose this week. Even if BYU does become eligible for an at large birth, there is very little chance they would be selected.

Right now the teams that have a chance for an at large selection are Boise St., Oklahoma St., Iowa, Pitt, and Pen. St.

Pitt most likely will lose to Cincinnati

Oklahoma St. could lose to Oklahoma

Boise St. would have to lose to Nevada

That would leave us in a very shallow pool for the last at large bid with Iowa, Pen. St, and a one loss Boise St.

YUp. It would take a Boise State, Big East, ACC, and Pac-10 meltdown for BYU to get in.

Va Tech would have to lose to Virginia

BSU would have to lose to Nevada AND NMSU (Should I even go on after those two?)

Miami loses to SFla

Georgia Tech loses to Georgia AND Clemson in the ACC championship

Pitt loses to WVA and Cinci

USC loses to UCLA

Oregon beats Oregon St.

Washington beats Cal

Oklahoma beats Oklahoma St.

Texas must win the Big 12 championship

And of course BYU beats Utah.

Then BYU will likely finish in the top 14 and earn an "at-large" BCS berth along with the loser of Florida-Alabama, TCU, and either Penn St. or Iowa.

Best part is they left the Utes out, even though they're barely behind us in the BCS standings.

This is no more than a CYA move by the BCS. I was listening to one of the local sports talk programs on the way to work yesterday and they mentioned that the BCS had hired some individual they seemed to know to be the BCS "smoke up the backside" blower and now he had hired an additional assistant who had on his resume of having worked in the White House. Their job is soley to bring the BCS's positive attributes to the public.

The BCS is not stupid and they're not going to lie down and give up money out of their pockets. They are understanding more and more that they are on thin ice and moves like that, they believe, show the world that the great Satan of college football really doesn't exist and is a figment of our imagination.

If the Cougars are even being mentioned with two losses, this may be more of a psychological boost for future seasons - knowing that one loss doesn't necessarily eliminate us may lessen the pressure for perfection. Another season in the future similar to this one, but where we had only lost one game instead of two, and lost that one to a top 5 team (as in TCU this year) and kept the score a little closer - we would probably be in.

They'll score more points when they take an undefeated non-aq team, like BSU, and give them an at-large bid or better still, give a non-BCS team a shot at the BCS title. TCU is as deserving as any team that I've seen coming up through the non-aq ranks.

Should Texas lose the Big12 championship game, TCU better get the nod. Although I can see Cincy jumping them given they play Pitt and WVa to close the season.

After reading mention of the white house, I have to say that this is one of the greatest letdowns of the current president. Apparently all that MNF talk was just to get votes. I guess that just typical of our politicians today. All talk, no progress.

Climate change conventions be damned (really I hope they are damned), I want a playoff.
