2013/14 Vs 2012/13

I am now getting more optimistic about next season. Up until two weeks ago, it was looking like a one man - Tyler Haws - show with inconsistent flashes from Carlino and hope for iracles from a RM - Collinsworth - and a true freshman center and then who knows what for the other spot. It was looking to continue the downward trend that started the day Jimmer finished.



But Matt Carlino seems to have found his game and role within the team and has gooten a flow established that has everyone playing with confidence. If that continues into next season we will have - barring injuries or the Carlino transfer rumor that seems to have gone away - three returning starters who will be better and just need to replace Zylstra and Davies without losing more than wegain with the improved starters returning. Do that, and we will be the same or better next season.



And this tournament experience of games and practices will help, too.



Haws - will still be the best player.

Carlino - will learn that he is at his best making Haws and others look good - forcing opponents to back off Carlino a bit - getting him some open shots.

Austin will also be improved and battle Collinsworth and our Fresman Center for who is 3rd, 4th, and 5th best.



The bench could not be any weaker than this season.



Collinsworth may be as good as Zylstra.



Mika will not be as good as Davies.



So better at 3 spots

Same or better bench

Nearly the same - possibly better at a 4th spot.



The questiob is how much of a drop off we get with an inexperienced true Freshman Mika Vs Davies.

BYU needs to find points in the post and off the bench. I'm not sure anyone on the roster right now can provide the post points. I do think there are guys who can provide the bench points.



Does BYU take an international trip this summer? That could help the team get a jump start on the season that will have several new faces in key positions.

Haws 22 ppg

Carlino 15-20 ppg (and in addition to establishing flow, needs to shoot off the pass)

KC--5-10 ppg (not better than Z shooting the 3) but better getting to rim and Reb.

Mika--10 ppg

Austin--10 ppg

Bench--10 ppg.

You guys are also forgetting about Luke Worthington and Halford. I think Luke will easily be better and contribute more than Kaufusi, I mean Butler was recruiting Worthington so I've got some hope there. Halford shot 92.2% from the FT line so you know he can shoot. I think we get more than expected from those 2 guys thus helping our bench contribution

I'm hoping Austin steps up. Between Mika and Austin we could be as good as Davis and Austin are now. If they could both play post and Collinsworth can put some time in at the 4 as well as some of the others, we could create some very good matchups against a variety of opposing lineups. We could also keep up this run and gun offense with fresh guys contributing.



This NIT sucess could be a springboard to 2013/14.
