Here we go ...... who woulda thunk it? BYU dominated So. Miss - who all Las Vegas odds makers picked to beat BYU tonight. Whoa! What is Zylstra eating and drinking? Find out and make sure the entire team does the same.

Tues., April 2 @ 7pm ET, ESPN2. NIT semi-final, BYU vs. Baylor @ New York.

I don't what Zylstra is eating, but all the BYU fans who have said repeatedly that he isn't a D1 player should be eating a big plate of crow.

+1. Copy that. Zylstra must be lighting candles every night, jumping over cracks in the sidewalk, and throwing salt over his right shoulder. Or, maybe he's just a solid athlete that is hitting his stride.

Either way, I'm lighting candle tonight for for this team and emptying the salt shaker. ;)

I am going to give Carlino full credit for lifting Zylstra. Things are flowing and in synch and Carlino is the QB.

Zylstra is being left open. It's that simple. He usually hit open shots throughout the season as well but he also wasn't moving away from the ball as well. Not sure what is going on but I'm not surprised to see him knock down these shots. What's surprising is that teams are letting him have the chance to.

I just scoured the odds makers and betting lines for the BYU vs Baylor game. Nothing out yet. Tomorrow by 10am probably.

I also looked up the Baylor Bears roster. They have some height.

Austin 7' 1", 220, Fr.

Jefferson, 6' 9", 210, Jr.

Rykhoek, 6' 11", 230, Fr.

Gathers, 6' 8", 260, Fr.

Starting 5 tonight -

Jefferson, F, 26 pts., 6' 9", 210 lbs, Jr.

Austin, C, 5 pts., 7' 1", 220 lbs, Fr.

Walton, G, 6 pts., 6' 1", 184 lbs., Sr.

Heslip, G, 8 pts., 6' 2", 180 lbs, Jr.

Jackson, G, 20 pts., 5' 10", 180 lbs, Sr.

Bench

Gathers, F, 8 pts., 6' 8", 260 lbs, Fr.

Franklin, G, 4 pts., 6' 2", 195 lbs, Jr.

Bello, G, 2 pts., 6' 4", 187 lbs, So.

2 Stars plus 4 that could spark at times.

BYU now seems to have 3 stars plus Zylstra who can be dangerous plus Austin and not much more.

BYU has more fire power - but Baylor is deeper.

Should be a better matchup than last time we played and they blew us out. This is a neutral court. Equal and good rest for both teams. Both teams with momentum. BYU playing much better now than it was back then.

It is all up to Carlino. If he plays well BYU will play well. If the big two have really become the big 3 or 4 - BYU wins.

Baylor is a 2 Seed and BYU is a 3 seed. Baylor may be a 1 - 3 point favorite. If oddsmakers believe in the new BYU - BYU will be favored.

Umm,

Baylor smacked us down earlier this year on December 21nd.

http://byucougars.com/m-basketball/mens-basketball-falls-baylor" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Pierre Jackson killed us. They held us to 39% shooting. Davies had a good game but they held everyone else down.

As I recall we started out well, but once Nate Austin got in foul trouble their size gave us problems.

Now on a neutral court with us playing well things might be different.

Zylstra gets the credit for Zylstra's better play. Carlino gets credit for his won better play.

Yes, the team is doing better with Carlino playing better, but players are responsible for their own performance.

Just because Carlino stunk earlier or was inconsistent is no excuse for a senior like Brock to struggle like he did.

BYU was up 19-8 when Craig Cusick got whistled for technical foul.

BYU was still up 23-17 before Haws got called for two fouls in 16 seconds and sat the rest of the half. BYU then scored 8 points over the final 9:27 of the half while Baylor scored 23.

Game over.

BYU has nothing to lose at this point and will be well rested for the game next Tuesday. Go out and have more fun, beat another team.

Unless you are one of the fans that think Dave Rose does not know what he is doing, you might want to read some of his quotes re how Carlino's leadership while playing well has lifted the entire team.

Get the ball to the open man in the flow of the game and good things happen - and you get a lot more assists and fewer turnovers.

Interesting analyses. Heslip and Jefferson scare me. Jeff for obvious reasons. We didn't contain him at all and with foul trouble, he owned BYU in the paint, iirc.

Heslip can get it going from the outside. If he gets hot, BYU is prone to fall apart and get out of "The Flow."

I'm looking forward to this game. We had Baylor. They'll be a bit more battle tested and we will be too.

Davies had his way with Baylor - 27 points and 17 boards. 17 boards! I suspect they'll try to contain him more next Tuesday, which will hopefully open things for the rest.

Haws, Davies and Austin need to stay out of fould trouble for us to have a chance.

Last time we played Baylor, Carlino was in the middle of his slump, chipping in only 8 points and 1 assist while committing 3 turnovers.

In NIT play, Carlino is averaging 17.6 points, 6 rebounds (insane for a PG), and 9 asissts a game while committing 4 turnovers. He plays anywhere near those numbers next Tuesday and this will be a whole different game.

I think Carlino rebounding is by design to start fastbreaks.

I don't think so. I think Carlino is just a darn good ball hawk. He is also a great athlete which makes for some good rebounding. If you are designing your rebounding around your Pg getting boards, you're going to either have a lot of open looks on the perimeter for the opponent, or going to have really sad rebounding numbers.

"Zylstra gets the credit for Zylstra's better play. Carlino gets credit for his own better play."

Yes they do. Sure Zylstrs befits from Carlino's improved play as Carlino benifits from Zylstra's and everyone elses improved play. The rising tide doesn't just lift one boat. Is it that hard to give up names and terms like black hole, brick and not a d I player? Maybe Z won't have a great game the rest of the NIT but he sure has done well up to now.

If the big 3 (Davies, Haws, Carlino) match their recent numbers and Zylstra gets double figures in scoring, and Austin doesn't foul out and rebounds well, we have this game. It will take at least 4 of them to play well to win this game. Neutral court makes this one even as both have momentum coming into the game.
