Would you rather? Offense edition

Assume you only have the above two options. Which would you rather have at BYU, and explain why.

I'd rather we score 34 points in each game than if we only scored 25. But I don't want us getting to 34ppg by scoring 46 in one and 22 in the next

Are you talking 1 vs 3 turnovers with those numbers? Well then obviously the answer is 34+. The average number of points an opponent will score with an extra two possessions is probably only 3 points depending on field position. That takes into account the fact that any punt is also a turnover with an extra 37 yds of field position. I would take 34+ over 25 points up to about a 3.5 turnover differential.

Obviously anyone enjoys a high octane offense. But, turnovers kill a team. I interpret your post as meaning 22-25 pts, and receiving 2 turnovers more than the other team. Basically, winning the turnover battle by 2 per game. To me, 22-25 pts., plus winning the turnover battle is a "game winning" formula.

Ultimately - I don't care if we win ugly (2012 Poinsettia Bowl). I just want the Cougs to win.

Our defense has become the core strength of our team. If we don't turn the ball over, we win.

Both options are too vague. 35 and 5 turnovers. No thanks. 25 and zero turnovers. Sure. I LIKE THAT. 22 and 1 turnover. Not sure I like that vs 35 and 2 turnovers.

It's a risk/reward dichotomy--it's not supposed to give you hard and fast options, because the real world never does.

Essentially the question was to see who prefers the offense Bronco tried to put in place with Anae the first go around with fewer points but a strong emphasis on ball security, versus those who prefer what we had under French/Chow/Crowton and what Doman promised and Anae is promising this time--higher octane with higher risk.

If we had 2012 defense - I vote for 25 and zero turnovers. But that was not an option. 22 and 1 turnover would tie with 35 and 3 turnovers. But yeah - ball control, move chains, field position.

If we have a typical BYU defense of old - give me the 35+ points and hope we outscore them.

I would not pick one. If I am playing from behind - ramp it up. If I am playing vs a gun slinging offwnse but vs a porous defense - ramp it up.

13 points for two turnovers? You've got to be kidding. Even if both turnovers were on the BYU five yard line I'd take the points. Field position is the most overvalued item in football. Tell me this how many points is 37 net yds on a punt worth?

Zero. Last I checked, you don't get any points for punting. You only get points for touchdowns, field goals and extra points.

Momentum is the excuse people use when the truth is they just aren't very good. Even if you believe that nonsense 13 points will create more momentum than two turnovers any day. I'll go further. Even if both turnovers were safeties I'd take the 13 points. The only scenario I wouldn't would be if they were both pick sixes.
