He is chasing Ainge for most points scored in their first two years. He became the 7th Cougar to have 2 games of 37+. The list: Jimmer (9), Ainge (4), Nemelka (3), M. Haws (2), M. Smith (2), Skousen (2). He scored 37 points to make his season total 706. He is the 5th Cougar to score 700+ in a single season.

Amazing that with all the technology available that UW never learned how to beat BYU, which is to play Haws physically and not allow him to get the ball. Oh well, good for us.

Most games with 20+ pts, season: Fredette (33, Sr.), Smith/Durrant (27, Srs.), Ainge (24, Jr.), Fredette/Smith (22, Jrs.), Haws (22, Soph.).

So true. Are we in conspiracy mode yet? Do we need 1 more season of "one way" calls & no calls.

Speaking of the physical play allowed against BYU in the WCC, I believe Kafusi's role become more important as the season progressed. A top-rate basketball player in all aspects? Maybe not. But his contribution to the team may be pure and simple: BE PHYSICAL AND TOUGH AS NAILS! I recall the 1st Gonzaga game in Spokane, Haws got belted twice in the back of the head under the basket during rebound situations. I believe they were deliberate and intended to take Haws out of the game. Something worked that night because Haws didn't perform well. Sometimes you protect your star, other times you create havoc for the other team's core player(s). If there is anyone on the team that "hammer home this point", it has to be Kafusi. Rock solid. Strong and can be PHYSICALLY imposing. The big Gonzaga geekball center learned that it can hurt to go into Kafusi's area. Set some HARD picks, get in the opponents' heads, be the enforcer. The opponent knocks Haws down, have a memory. The enforcer will be waiting for the time to level the playing field. Kafusi has 5 fouls, hopefully they are carefully selected.......

Since he won't be playing next year I guess it'll be up to tough guy Sharp to knock some teeth out.

I know Haws is just a sophmore, but do you think he will be become BYU's all-time leading scorer? He currently has 1127 points, 730 of which are from this year. Jimmer holds the record at 2599, so Haws is 1472 points away, so if Haws scores the same number of points in both his Junior and Senior years as he did this year, he will pass Jimmer (assuming Haws scores at least 4 points tomorrow night).

HAws' scoring will go up next year. It will have to in order to stay competitive. Davies 20 goes away. Mika may bring 10 ppg next year, MAY. But not likely 20 and not the first or second option in scoring. And Austin will have more of a green light, but will NOT light it up. 10 ppg at most.

Then, by his Sr year, Haws will still be the first option scorer. But how Carlino develops and supporting cast as well, makes all the diff. But incoming talent will Not likely, by itself, account for a scoring drop in Haws.

However, the likelihood of breaking Jimmer's record has to fall below the 30th percentile. But if Haws does, he will be in POY-- as in Naismith contention.
