At one level It's funny watching him condescend to the media. At another level, its almost disturbing to know that he is playing a flippant cat and mouse game. Maybe a "no comment" or its "undecided" might be better.

Our two main coaches won't exactly be known for their cooperation with the media. This alright, I guess, first things first on the field and building young men.

The media does what they have to do but Anae is right, some of the questions are the stupidest things out there and don't deserve comment. I believe that he would give a great interview in a one-on-one situation with a media member who is sincere and actually interested in what he has to say instead of trying to figure out how to spin his words to make his column better. Hmmm. Do I smell Gordie-boy Monson somehow?

I was a little embarrassed for Anae. He obviously doesn't want to share certain information, but he turned it into a bigger deal than it needed to be. Doesn't he realize that it's not just the media he is talking to, but also the fans? A simple "I'd rather not say" or "we haven't decided yet" would have been fine.

I agree with you. He comes off a little smug. I don't really care as long as he produces great offense.

I didn't read it as smug, he seemed extremely awkward. He needs an interview/PR coach.

I thought he came off as a two word name for a donkey, the first of which is "Jack."



The "why do you ask" question of his, is just him being a Jerk. I wanted one of those guys to say "We're asking because that's what people are talking about, fans want to know tis stuff." I get that he's not excited about talking about who will be in the booth or on the sidelines, but guess what... we've spent pages on this forum alone discussing that very topic.



If he's going to see boogiemen everytime someone asks a question, he will not last long

It was a stupid redundant question and Anae was tired of answering the same question reworded for the 10th time. Frankly, media interviews are Anae's weakest point and the media needs to understand that. As far as the in the booth or not, Anae is simply trying to install a new offense and I would bet he hasn't even given 2 seconds thought about who will be in the booth or on the field at this point. All stupid questions IMO.

I agree, I actually liked that he attacked back a little bit, Frankchuck or whoever he is, is the smug jackass. Chomping away on his gum with his big old smile. Something about that guy bugs me.

It is good, crazycoug, that you are bugged about "something" with Jason. Follow your inner feelings and you shall be led to the truth! Jason Upchuck was the leader of the Cougar turncoats who were pulling for the Pukes to beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl a few years back. He lost his credibility, his honor, his status, his dignity, and his manhood. Although he still writes as and professes to be a Cougar beat writer, he personifies the quotation, "If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck but lays a goose egg, it ain't a duck!"

Bravo Anea! I love the way he represents BYU in this and totally punks Franchy making him look stupid. The offense, and our young men, are in good hands!!!

I finally watched it, and I liked it. These guys ask stupid questions all the time, don't answer the stupid questions if you don't want to. Also, Franchuck, be a professional and take the wad of Orbitz peppermint out of your mouth before asking questions.

I don't think it looked good for anyone. Franchuk looked like a punk smug high school kid with sideways looks to his groupies, chomping away. I don't begrudge RA for disrespecting him--Fran clearly didn't respect Anae and deserved no better. And really, if you earn your paycheck trading in words and can't clearly articulate why you're asking a question, you really don't deserve an answer.

At the same time, for a guy who earned a PhD, Anae is a pretty poor communicator. He didn't come off as having pwned the media; rather he came off as being supremely annoyed and, like Sammich said, awkward. And I gotta say, this doesn't instil much confidence that a young man can walk into his office and have a productive conversation.

I would bet dollars to doughnuts that the majority of PhD holders aren't great communicators, unless they studied communication (and even then...).

chuck ticked anae off because anae knew he was jabbing at him for what anae was accused of last time around: being a hindrance on the sideline.



i think franchuck thinks he works at the new york times. I refuse to even go to his newspaper's website simply because of him. Can't stand the guy.

My biggest problem was his first "why do you want to know" with respect to "Was the offense sharper earlier in practice?" Why the hell do you think he wants to know? - that was a totally fair question, Anae was just being a jerk

Whether or not it was deserved, it is furthering the impression out there that BYU football doesn't get along with the media. Do they not get that these guys write about the school and program good or bad? Instead of answering the dumb question with a simple answer and leaving it at that, he turned it into another "bad publicity" incident on how BYU coaches don't get along with the media and treat them with disrespect.

Exactly. Franchuck was getting sound bites for an article. He could have been picking his nose and spitting tobacco and he still would be filling the contstraints of his job. Anyone saying that he "didn't look professional and deserved it" is just trying a sleight of hand to cover up the fact that our coach was an a**hole, when he had no reason to be.



The interview was embarrassing. You wonder where all the comments of a few years past came from when recruits said that they don't really like Anae when visiting the team?



If you close off ALL practices to everyone, (a bad PR move in the first place, but they must have a good reason for doing it, right?) you better have more answers than "Why do YOU want to know?" When someone with a tape recorder asks you if your boys looked sharper than the ten minutes he was allowed to see after practice, or if that is about what they can expect from the team at this point.



Doman didn't know how to do his job (at all) and was a poor choice for promotion at OC, but at least he was nice, straightforward with the media, and people liked him. Anae came off like a crotchety psycho to anyone that isn't fully wearing blue goggles.



"Why do YOU want to know? ... What is your reason for asking this question? What are you trying to get at? You tell me, since you seem to know so much..." I wouldn't expect anything less from an interview with Dennis Rodman, or a hormonal teenage girl. Cmon man, first day on the job? That was bush league.

Anae deserves a hi-5 for that one. The 2 DBs that were asking hte stupid questions got what they deserved. And the kid that said "not really" needs to grow up and take a class in professionalism. This aint TMZ Provo, it's a freaking post-practice interview. Ask intelligent questions, or shut up.

Are you saying that "was the offense sharper earlier in practice" wasn't a good question? Anae listed "Fatigue" as a reason for the offense not looking sharp. Was it fatigue from a har practice or fatigue from a bunch of practices? One way to tell is if the offense had a bad last 10 minutes or bad entire practice. That was a fair question and Anae wasn't being helpful. The he had the schnutz to ask if his deliberately unhelpful question was helpful. If I were his boss, I'd disciime him for this crappy performance
