It's time to hand out grades for the players of the 2012-2013 basketball team.

Please select the overall grade you think the player deserves. The grades will all be averaged to determine the final CougarCorner grades for the players.

This poll is for Tyler Haws.

For the season, he had 1,083 minutes, 233 of 493 Field Goals, 164 of 189 free throws, 39 of 101 from three, 669 points. 43 offensive rebounds, 105 defensive rebounds, 62 assist, 62 turnovers, 43 steals and 3 blocks.

Had one real bad game vs. Gonzaga, but for a sophmore off his mission, he was more than was expected. I'd have to say that my major disappointment with Tyler was that he began the season shooting the lights out of free throws and got worse at it as the season progressed. I never could put my finger on the "why".

I think he got tired as the year went on. He got tired physically (just off his mission) and mentally (from the physical play teams were allowed to play). Will struggle next year as well, if he doesn't get some help on the perimeter and from the post.

Definitely a 'A' from me. 11th in the national in scoring coming off his mission. NOBODY expected that. Still room for improvement and I'm excited to watch him for two more years.

I gave him a B+ for the very reasons you guys mentioned, there is still room for improvement. But he absolutely blew away any expectations surrounding him.

With the context that he was fresh off his mission, he is an easy, easy A. Maybe even an A anyway, considering the attention he got from defenses as the year went on. But I think it's fair to drop him a little for the few problems and tiredness he showed. And maybe a bit hopeful that he isn't near his potential yet. :)

B He had a good year but nobody should be that easy to stop. Especially against the weak sauce schedule we played this year. Mission legs or not he needs to develop some quickness this offseason.

Gave him an "A."

He contributed much more this season than expected. Doesn't mean he doesn't have areas to improve on, but without his 20 pts a night it would have been an even longer season.

Next season, he'll get doubled and tripled even more. He started forcing shots towards the end of the season and stopped moving around as much without the ball. One more year will help him in those areas.

Biggest area of improvement for him though will be in the assist category. Once Haws has the ball he likes to shoot it. He needs to learn to recognize the double when it comes and react accordingly rather than try to force a shot. He doesn't have the handles to beat or split a double team. Rose needs to factor this into his game plan and send cutters back door or rotate a shooter over the open look once Haws gets doubled.

Gave him my highest grade of all players. FRESH off a mission and averaged 20 points. He has to find endurance, 15-20 pounds, better dribbling, smarter reads on double teams, better three point shooting, and be put at the two. But BYU got the most out Tyler compared to his mates. bDavies should have gotten highest grade, bc he was a Sr, but was not mentally tough enough.

MVP for the season--Tyler Haws.

Started lights out but faded both physically and mentally the last half of the season. You can't blame him for fading physically, but you can for losing his composure and rushing things the second half of the year.

We wouldn't have won any game without him, which was proven when he became a non-factor in the last half and we went 7-7 in our last 14 games.

A- . He did great physically, but needs to learn to be more patient and not rush things through the course of a game. He also needs to learn to be a better defender, and incorporate that. Room for improvement, and for stamina.

The question with THaws is, Why the second half of the season slow down?

Possible explanations include--

-First half teams couldn't/didn't scout as well as teams in the WCC?

-First half teams were softer/weaker than conference teams?

-THaws does not have enough moves (not being critical, just evaluative) ie., can't live by turnarounds alone; Has To get better at three point shots?

-"Mission legs caught up with him" which is somewhat counterintuitive since he had the strength in the first half of season and most RMs are weaker then get stronger with time?

-Too many minutes for any player, not named Jimmer?

-does not have the overall body strength at the 3 to handle the pounding he was taking by opposing teams in WCC?

-no other legitimate, consistent threat for a scorer, except Davies, so defenses can focus help on shutting Haws down?

-should be playing the two?

-OR MY worst fear....Tyler, like in his freshman year, ran out of steam with the longer college schedule. I know he played year round in AAU and HS, but there is a rigor to a long NCAA season. I want to believe this is not true, but can't by itself be eliminated as yet, because it has happened 2 for 2.

I'm sure there are several contributing factors and not just one. And, he did keep his 20 ppg average. So how much did production really drop? Maybe the 42 point game made believers out of all of us, that he has a superstar potential in him.

Again, not criticizing, just wondering why the apparent second half slow down.
