2012-13 Brandon Davies - Regular Season Grades

It's time to hand out grades for the players of the 2012-2013 basketball team.

This poll is for Brandon Davies.



For the season, he had 926 minutes, 204 of 383 Field Goals, 152 of 225 free throws, 4 of 13 from three, 564 points. 61 offensive rebounds, 189 defensive rebounds, 81 assist, 86 turnovers, 45 steals and 32 blocks.

His major flaw is to keep away from stupid fouls that finds him spending too much time on the pine.

Struggled for several weeks while playing through an ankle injury. Too many fouls on the perimeter. Too many offensive charges. Good rebounder for most of the year, with a few exceptions. Didn't have more than a couple of truly dominating games. He had some games last year where I thought he would just tear through the league this year. Needed more help in the post and when the perimeter game never materialized, teams just collapsed on him and he had no hope.

After his sophomore season, I was expecting him to be making some noise on a national level by his senior year. That never happened. Still, he was one of the best centers in the conference, and our team was much better with him than it would've been without him.



I also appreciate how his points, rebounds, assists and FT% all improved every single year, though I will never understand his love of reaching in 30 feet from the basket.

Davies was one of the better players in the conference, to be sure. But if he is judged in context of his experience and ability, Davies deserves nothing higher than a C.

A- I ragged on him a lot but he was our most consistent player. This grade overlooks his addiction to early fouls in big games where we needed him most. But without him we probably only win 15 games this year.

This analysis is right on. I gave him a B-. How can he get anything less given he won 1st team WCC? But he did not bring enough consistency mentally and not enough leadership. He had a higher ceiling and didn't get there.
