2012-13 Cory Calvert - Regular Season Grades

It's time to hand out grades for the players of the 2012-2013 basketball team.

For the season, he had 167 minutes, 17 of 48 Field Goals, 8 of 10 free throws, 4 of 18 from three, 46 points. 4 offensive rebounds, 13 defensive rebounds, 12 assist, 13 turnovers, 4 steals and 0 blocks.

Shame he wasn't red shirted this last season. Seemed to have wasted this year and there is some potential, but he needs to ramp up significantly.

Waste of year. Had some opportunities to earn more playing time, but never really took advantage of them. Thought he'd be a better shooter than turned out to be (.354 FG, .222 3P).

I also don't get why he wasn't red-shirted. Played VERY little and when he did, I thought he looked lost, like he was in over his head.

At times, you could see some flashes though, like maybe he had a little Jimmer in him to create his own shot. Maybe Rose thought he would be able to provide a smiliar level of production as a freshman. Jimmer shot .407 and .336 as a FR ( and that was while taking more threes than anyone on this year's roster).



Rose simply gambled on too many players and none of them panned out.

B He is going to be really good for us but Rose never gave him much of a chance. Guys like Calvert need to be set loose, not put in a vanilla pass around the perimeter then always dump it to Davies offense.

This. B+. Did what he was Told. Shows a lot of potential.

A-minus. I loved his effort, and he is one of the quickest guys on the court. A decent ballhandler, and I like the change of pace when he got in the games. One of the only guys in blue that can take it to the hoop.



He and Carlino made a VERY impressive backcourt in the Gonzaga game. I really liked watching the defensive effort and offensive spark they had. It is a shame that they won't be playing together in any more meaningful games this year. That was the best backcourt this year, no question. Very active.



He didn't play much, but that wasn't his fault. He should have been the number one backup for Carlino and seen most of Cusicks minutes as well. Playing Carlino and Calvert would have allowed us to play man, as they are our best man defenders on the court.



Mismanagement by Rose to not give him serious minutes earlier. We needed him towards the end of the season, but he looked over his head when given chances late.

Rose has a bit of Bronco in him. They run a system and hope to God that it works every time against every opponent. But sometimes you need a gamebreaker. Remember the VCU's and George Mason's of the world. They were not great teams but they were dangerous because they played to go for the throat. This team played so conservatively it was pathetic. Guys like Winder and Calvert can be explosive and should be given the green light to do whatever they want to bring some killer instinct to our boring offense.
