AmmonCougar1I'm putting this on the football board because I'm fairly certain there is more traffic here than other sports. But I just have to get something off my chest. First of all, I acknowledge it's my fault for reading/following CB and getting worked up by what is posted there. Second of all I realize I should probably be posting there and not here but I don't have an account there and the only thing I really like about their board is the format with a "splash page" of recent and/or most talked about topics (I'd love to see this here!) Because usually I go there first, see what's trending, and come here to find out if it's worth anything by more level-headed and trusted posters.
Having said all that here's my beef: (And this happens here too) I'm sick and tired of using the u of u as our measuring stick! Who cares what their teams have done, are doing or will do? We are no longer in the same conference as them. While we recruit the same kids often, I'm of the opinion that those kids already have a favorite between the two schools and it's probably not as close as some think. We or the u likely didn't have a chance at a kid that was already a fan of one school and hated the other and received offers from both.
I don't want to get all preachy but Elder Holland has often said, "the race isn't against each other, it's against sin." I think we can substitute 'sin' for our own shortcomings as fans and of the Cougar teams we love. Why we tend to measure ourselves against our rivals to make ourselves feel better is ridiculous. Even measure ourselves against our past really has no meaningful purpose. There were different players, coaches, opponents, etc. We need to focus on now and into the future in being the best team, fans, institution, etc. the best we can be.
