Bronco's Last Year

This is Bronco's last year on his contract. I would not be surprised if he didn't renew. I think that the moves made this year are a signal that Bronco Mendenhall is focusing on one last season. Otherwise, I think you give Doman one more season. He no longer had time for a project.

I think so. However, I have no inside knowledge.

I expect to see Bronco sign a 3 year deal, perhaps as long as 5 years, perhaps by end of Spring. And yes, I have heard things on this from others. Something is in the works. Bronco wants to be here longer than 1 more year. People claiming otherwise do not know what they are talking about.

This will also be the FIRST year since Steve Young's JUNIOR year that Lance Reynolds will not be on the sidelines. In fact, in the past 40 years, only FOUR years have not involved Coach Reynolds in some capacity.

I would not be surprised if Bronco did leave BYU. I would not be surprised if he resigned.

Is that "resigned" or "re-signed"? Big difference. I expect him to sign a new contract soon. 8)

I would not be surprised if he leaves but i Don't think he will. If he does,it will go down as one of the most odd coaching situations in BYU history. All that potential, all that success, all that unfulfilled, retiring so young. Unless, he goes for some really big bucks in a big program for a few mostly intolerable years, that has far fewer opportunities to teach character and religion at the level that Bronco clearly feels is a priority; and where fans will be just as passionate and/or rabid and even more critical when football is fifth.

I wouldn't blame him if he wants to spend more time with his boys. I would totally get that and say Heaven bless him.

Otherwise, I suspect he will sign a series of one-year with option to renew type of contracts. His word is important to him, but so is his freedom. He would not play BYU as other coaches have played their universities and leave earlier than his commitment to stay,

I hope he stays its as simple as that.

I admit, I am the guy you are talking about Lawboy - I do not know what I am talking about. But, I would expect Bronco to play out his last year, and test the waters elsewhere. Based on nothing, I would think Bronco could easily double, perhaps triple what he makes at BYU elsewhere. If Bronco did a 3-5 year stint making the "gonzo dollars" he would be done. Time to kick it at J-Dawgs and wax his Harley.

I think that what Ddawg and Lawboy are saying fits hand-in-hand. Bronco made some big changes to set up for one last run. It probably will be three years, maybe five, and intelligent football fans will be sad to see him go when he does.
