Jason Munns = #1 Going into Spring Ball

Per Jason Beck, they are starting with a clean slate at the QB position, and seniority will get preference, so going into Spring Ball, Jason Munns is the default #1 QB and will get first team reps, then Olsen, then Hill, if healthy.

Does seniority = class standing? or is it a function of games started, etc?

Huh, I don't even know what to think.

Not really surprising. The reality is that the coaches already know who they think will be the starter for next year. However, it is important that the starter earn the starting job. I think the starter will be named before spring ball is over.

Works for me. It's fair.



Clean slate. But we have to start with someone, so we'll start with the guy who has invested and had invested in him the most time in the program.



Doesn't mean it is set in stone and can't/won't change very quickly either.



I wonder if this is a reflection of Hill's health? Maybe he's not quite ready for Spring Ball to begin on Monday?

It means that they want to foster competition to force guys to get better. No complacency in the ranks. Gotta earn your spot. And with Taysom out anyway this Spring with respect to contact drills (he can go on the no contact stuff, like 7 on 7), why not do it to clearly establish the back up?



So yeah, I like it. I like it for every single position on the field actually.

I think it will become readily apparent pretty quickly who is cut out to be the QB of this team.

Just read the article, on Deseret News. Since Hill isn't ready to go at full strength, the decision will probably spill over into just before the season opener. Sigh.

I like half of it. Everyone having to earn their spot is good for the team. If they can keep seniority as a preference and nothing more I'm fine with that too but if seniority is anything more than a preference we're in trouble.

Actually Munns is going to be GREAT.



First off, his name is close to Muuns - which is the species of Darth Plagueis who was one of the most powerful Sith Masters.



Second, he was a 4-Star QB recruit, #27 in the nation in 2007. Taysom Hill was only a 3-star and ranked #30. And Ammon Olsen wasn't even evaluated coming out of high school.



Sorry guys, Munns is our guy. Nothing trumps high school evaluations or talent or hype.

Makes me feel bad for Lark.

After the Riely Nelson v. James Lark discussion from this past season, we should all be thrilled that Munns gets his chance to show whether he can lead BYU's offense in 2013. I will be cheering for Taysom because I have seen him play in a game, but it's good to know that Munns and Olsen should get their chances to prove themselves.

If Munns isn't the best guy, at least he will have had his shot. Based on watching drills and other action in practices and games (including pre-game drills), I'm betting that Olsen and Hill pass Munns on the depth chart...likely during spring ball. Hill has the advantage over Olsen because of athleticism and experience, but Olsen will make it a great competition. And don't completely count out Green. While I don't think he has a chance to sniff playing time in 2013, he will be motivated and competitive. It should be fun to watch.

This is just balderdash. We can't know for sure the intent behind this.

So, since we are left to guess, because this is more veiled half-messages--



If this is about "learning from the Lark" situation, its bunk, classic Bronco, late-to-learn and then over-apply a remedy that belonged in a different context.



If its based solely and precisely on "seniority" as the main driving force, and applied to the whole team, this portends bad things for the program. Better, younger players blocked by the need to "Earn Bronco's TRUST".



If its Robert Anae acting unilaterally, and contextually relative to QB's, so beit. He's the boss; he's new and he wants a tabla rosa making everyone earn their place, without prejudice or bias from the previous regime. In which case, why didn't he just say this? I could much more readily accept an "open" competition. But to say Munns has "earned" #1, he has had to establish some criteria. And I guess it must be on time in program because Hill would have more actual PT. But then again, none of them have experience in Anaes system.

If Anae's offense is high powered, high speed, with a mobile QB, this is almost mocking Jason Munns or building false hope.

BTW, I have it on very good, eyes on authority that Hill has his speed and mobility back. Not that he wouldn't be protected and restricted from running in spring.

Here we go again .... I'm not going thru this circus another time. Taysom should transfer to a proven offense with a talented offensive coaching staff. Can you say Boise State? He's from Idaho and at least there, he's unproven and can start at the bottom like every transfer. It appears that his year at BYU was a waste. And Jason can recruit his "type' of quarterback now.

Señor, although you are being alarmist, you can't be too far off. If Beck, Anae, and Bronco blow this, they will seem more foolish than i think. but if they do, mods will have to ban me from CC, Because there will be no end to the criticism from me or others for that matter.
