In the 1960's the "Misery Index" was created by adding unemployment and inflation (economist Arthur Okun). Forbes uses that formula, plus violent crime, unemployment, foreclosure, taxes (income and property), and home prices.

1. Detroit, Mich. (On the verge of being taken over by the state)

2. Flint, Mich.

3. Rockford, Ill.

4. Chicago, Ill.

5. Modesto, Ca.

6. Vallejo, Ca.

7. Warren, Mich.

8. Stockton, Ca.

9. Lake County, Ill.

10. New York, NY

11. Toledo, Oh.

12. St. Louis, Mo.

13. Camden N.J. (Most impoverished city in the U.S. - 42.5% live below the poverty line)

14. Milwaukee, Wisc.

15. Atlantic City, NJ

16. Atlanta, Ga.

17. Cleveland, Oh.

18. Poughkeepsie, NY

19. Gary, Ind.

20. Youngstown, Oh.

Dawg, you've got to be kidding! Detroit, where the union gouged those rotten big car companies for the poor $70/hour workers? Chicago, which has some of the most "reasonable gun control" in the nation? You even named California cities where they're saving people from working for the dirty capitalists. Some of those cities know far more about nature than us Shepherds so they provided kidnapped wolves to balance nature and chew on our cattle, sheep and those good for nothing elk. It's cut way back on the flatulence out here. Now they can come out and enjoy the mountains and forests we've been ruining.

Mars & Hawk-dawg - exactly. It's interesting to look at that list and pay close attention to what political philosophies "govern" those cities. You sure don't see any cities from Texas, Utah, Arizona do you? Nope. Kinda eye opening. Yet, the folks from Chicago think their liberal ideas work better than anything else. This is pretty dramatic proof liberal ideas do not produce economic prosperity.

It's interesting to note the U-3 unemployment rate is 7.9%, higher than when Obama took office (it was 7.8%). Into his 5th year as Pres. and we're moving sideways. Of note, the current U-6 unemployment rate is 14.4% (U-6 is a combination of the U-3 rate + all the folks that have quit looking for jobs because they are so discouraged).

Take heart Nuk13, since Obama has taken office, gas prices are up 105% (AAA). We're saving the environment with all those high gas prices - right? :whistle:

What it is proof of is that liberal ideas are able to disconnect people from reality. It gets them to not blame the liberal ideas for the reasons why they're miserable and blame it on people who aren't in charge.

And ammo prices are up 145%. Hey, if the government buys all the ammo and drives the price up (talk about a bunch of panic buying) the citizens can't afford to kill each other, right? Thanks to the government we know have a more peaceful society!!!
