The article is by a Gonzaga fan hoping for an 18-team Big East that includes the Zags, BYU, and St. Mary's in a 9-team western division. This is highly unlikely.



It looks that the BE will expand to 12 teams (though perhaps only 10), focusing on the mid-east region. California/Oregon/Washington is NOT the targeted expansion region.



The money is likely off as well. Right now something like $30MM a year for 12 teams is more likely, or about $2.5MM per team. I believe that right now Gonzaga is making about $1MM a year in a bus league with a nice ESPN contract.
