HoosierCougarDoman's next coaching job will be a QB coach at a mid/small school or an OC at a JC or very small school.
Per his 1280 interview yesterday, I can see him taking 2013 off and starting the coaching career again in 2014 (see first sentence).

CougarbibThis is the Dilemna for Doman.
He was OC for a pretty big time school right where he wants to live. Not elite. But on the map and often in the discussion. While Bronco was vacationing and Doman was waiting around to interview for his job and then for the QB coach job, some potential opportunities elsewhere got filled. He may have assumed QB Coach was his if he wanted it. And then it was not.
Then he scrambled and had some leftover opportunities seek him out, but they did not capture his heart or raise the hair on the back of his neck. They were either not Big Time enough or were not someplace he wanted to live or both.
So he is prepared to sit out a year and see if Big Time at some place he wants to live rings him up. That does not bode well for the business he is trying to start, because it may be difficult for stakeholders to take it seriously - knowing that the business is a phone call away from being out of business.
Doman will probably get other feelers in the next few weeks. There is a school in Canada that could use him right now. But it is not Big Time and not in Provo.
He may need to rebuild from that level. His heart may not be in it - this year or next. And Big Time might not call next year either. But they surely would if he picked himself up by the boot straps and started over and had some success. But the pay ain't the same and it ain't in Provo.
That is his dilemna.

SpiffCougI don't think Doman has been sitting around waiting for Bronco to make a decision and other jobs were filled. He's known for some time he wasn't coming back.

Did you listen to his Lesson Learned answer in the interview where he acknowledged being naive, the window closed, and now he has learned that
You Need To Interview For Your Job
Means
Go look for a job
And - after he learned that the hard way he started hitting the phones hard.
This is why he thinks he might get better offers next season after sitting out.

SpiffCougI must have missed that part of the interview. If so, shame on Doman for sitting around after realizing/deciding/being informed he wasn't coming back to BYU this year.

It came in stages
Bronco goes on vacation but coaches know some changes will be made and they will need to interview for their jobs. At this stage Doman probably figures he may keep his job, but worst case, he will be QB Coach.
Then Bronco gets off vacation, tells Doman he is no longer OC, but he can interview for QB Coach. Doman figures it is his if he wants it - like most fans thought. As he stated in the interview, he and his wife had decided they wanted to stay as QB coach.
Doman interviews with Bronco and Anae. Bombshell. He gets told no with no clear understanding of why, and Bronco announces, probably intending to be kind and allow Doman to save face, that it was mutual. Doman was totally unaware in the interview about the mutual comment. He replied to the question and said it was not totally mutual.
But yeah - eventually he knew it was over. He said that was a month ago ie nearly a month after the P Bowl.
