Utah - Erickson as Co-Offensive Coordinator

This is a good hire for them. they need identity and experience. I don' think however that it will improve their offense. he has serious discipline issues and really hasn't been very good in a long time. he is also going to have a lot less talent than he is used to. i don't expect their offense to get much better with this hire. they need recruits to get better.

But when you think of it, as much as I detest them, at least they are bringing someone experienced in to sit with BJ the Idiot and mentor him. Would something like that have helped Doman?

Good point 1967. I believe it would have helped Doman and he would still be here if we had done something smart like that.

Polarizing figure. Controversial. Hopefully for Ute fans, Kyle made it clear who is the greater among equals. It got the Utes back in the national discussion for a few minutes.

This hire won't matter one iota if the Utes don't get better QB play. They haven't had good QB play the last two years and their record reflects it. THey are 12-12 the last two years.



Basically just like BYU. If you get average QB play, you wind up being an average team. BYU has had average at BEST QB play the last three years and our record is pretty much average over that time frame (25-14 last three years)

Erickson will not have the same amount of authority as Anae, with BJ being tutored there could be some internal issues that need to be ironed out. Additionally, Mr. E will be bringing in a new scheme which will take a while to implement. Seems like the transition period might take some time with lots of moving parts.

Agreed. But I never thought BJ was that good a QB. He just happened to be there with Urban, who had this dynamite system that would make Joe-Poop the Ragman look good. I think some credence needs to be given to coaching.

Not to split hairs but Utah is 13-12.



QB play has to be better. I don't know if Wilson is the guy for the Spread. Norm Chow loved Wilson and recruited him himself but Chow runs more of a traditional offense by comparison.



Utah has a couple interesting kids coming in.



Connor Manning broke nearly all of Matt Barkley's So. Cal high school records but he is a more a pro-style from what I gather.



Brandon Cox is a true spread guy and he is already on campus. He looks like RGIII. He could be good. He was a 4-star Arizona commit (Robert Anae recruit) but hurt his knee and they backed off and Utah got him. He may be the QB for the system.



They also got a signing day surprise when Micah Thomas signed. He is also a true spread kid.



IMO, Utah needs to improve a lot because it seems everybody else in the PAC is getting better too. On the other hand, Utah looked bad against ASU but really had chances against everyone else they played last season. They had some final scores that weren't as ugly as they looked. That could also be my crimson colored glasses.

Honestly, as much as I appreciate ARod, I was kind of looking forward to a chance to pick up a good offense guy AND and DL coach.



Of course, that thought lasted about 12 hours.

Maybe we did do something like this and Doman left because of it. I don't know what happened but as far as I could tell it's a possibility that this is what happened and Doman said I'd rather leave then be demoted.

Erickson ran a pro style O at ASU and Miami and Idaho and Wazzu. He is not a spread offense coach. So I expect Utah to run an O similar to what Chow ran with them. So I think Wilson will work just fine.



You might see some pistol elements, like the Niners ran, but at the end of the day, it will be power running with pro style passing. the pistol is just to mix things up.

Yes. And the majority of those points weren't because of Utah's offensive prowess.

14 pts from Utah's Defense

13 points on three drives totalling 22 yards of offense

14 points in the 4th quarter after the defense quit.

I'll give Chow and his offense credit for 13 of those 54 points.
