First Glimpse of Anae Offense

During the press conference, Coach Anae stated,



“This is a tight end offense. But I’ve been around long enough to know that the key to your offense is your talent. If you don’t build your offense around your talent, then it is ego-driven and that’s detrimental to the whole thing.”



Translation - he will design the offense around our talent. What talent - he brought on JC OL to provide pass protection for athletic QBs (Hill, Olsen, Green) and establish a run game (behind Williams, Hine, Brown, Moore) along with punishing FBs (Pritchard, Lasike).

Our TE group will have to resurface and be used (Friel, Mahina, Holt, Wilson).



He has stated that he wants the O to play fast and hard and emulate Bronco's D. IMO he will instill practice techniques that are in opposition to how Doman ran things and will blend his TT background, with what he had at BYU coupled with some of Rich Rodriquez’s philosophy. He did have a wonderful QB in Foles at AZ, the leading rusher in KC and some speedy WRs -a very prolific fast paced offense that could score rapidly (see bowl game vs NV - they scored winning TD in last 32 seconds).



I expect a much improved O with a complete overhaul of the OL and an attitude to boot. We have the schedule this year to put his approach to the true test.

I wonder if he has any examples of this he could point to for illustration purposes. ;)

Nah. YGrid, You're grasping at straws. Trying to make something out of nothing. Virtual conspiratorial speculation. This did not and could not exist at BYU in the recent past. Close your eyes and it will all go way. No ego- driven player would ever be granted such free reign that it would be "detrimental to the team." Anae is full of it. :roll:

He says that he will work with existing talent. I expect Williams to get more touches and pass catching opportunities teamed with an aggressive OL. Should see passes spread out more between our big 3 WR. Would be nice to see TE factor into the scheme like Pitta and George did under his tuteledge. Hope OL improves strength and conditioning so they can play fast and hard.

Now - let me see if I can follow your (lack of) logic and factual accuracy.



Anae was last the OC in 2010.

Regardless of varying conspiracy theories about who started whom - 2010 was the year of QB2, Nelson was the first of equal starters, Heaps was pulled in game 2, Nelson was the starter until BAM an injured and sick Matt Reynolds was bent over at the line of scrimmage, the OL sucked, and Nelson went down to injury. Blame it on Doman, Bronco, or whomever you want, but regardless of OC, the coaches all saw something good in Nelson compared to the other alternatives. They just could not keep him or Hill or even Heaps and Lark healthy very long.



With Anae gone in 2011, Heaps became the starter and sucked again. Then Nelson took over and Heaps transferred.



OL problems made everyone, including running backs and fullbacks look mediocre.

I think Holt got moved away from TE, and Sampson is back, so add him in that position. Along with Reden.



Personally, I wish they had put Wilson at FB 2 years ago. He'd be awesome there. THE FB pass would be a major threat again.

Anae on True Blue said that team will play hard, go fast so many times that seems to be his mantra. He also stated that he will be throwing the ball all over the place. They may only run 10-12 plays but with precision and with yardage.



He will be hiring QB, WR coaches that have like-minded attitudes, and the opportunity to do things their way. Seems like he has more control



He is most comfortable with OL so that will be the position that gets the most attention -by both Anae and 2J. That is welcome news as that was our achilles heel.

Ball security (no turnovers) and commitment to blocking will be emphasized with the goal of 8-9 yards a pop, minimum of 20 points - pushing for 40 points. He seems to be touching upon all of the areas of improvement that we all noticed last year. I like the focus and approach he is bringing to the program.

Wait, only 10-12 plays in the playbook. Is that right?

Context was in reference to Spring Ball - attempt to simplify. Makes me wonder if Doman made offensive schemes too complex last year.
