Recruiting class misconceptions

Chasen Andersen was recruited by his dad at Wisconsin, where he would have a full-ride family scholarship.



Maataua Brown was originally a Washington commit.



Josh Carter was offered by Arizona.



Michael Davis was offered by Iowa State.



Nathan DeBeikes had Colorado, Boise State, and Utah offers.



Inoke Lotulelei was a former UCLA commit.



Talon Shumway was offered by Utah, as was Trenton Trammell.



De'Ondre Wesley spent time committed to both Utah and Arizona State.



There are other kids with other offers that I'm missing. But still, not a bad list. Especially considering that many of these kids, such as Green and Pili, would have had some offers if they hadn't committed to BYU so early on in the process. Such is life.

Don't listen to utah sports radio. Problem solved. No one knows how these guys are going to develop. We just have to wait and see.

I believe that there were some who were not recruited much by other schools....but that is mainly because they committed to BYU so early on and were absolutely uninterested in other schools. Why would a school waste valuable recruiting time and resources on a kid they know is absolutely committed to BYU? Pili is a good example. He was steadfastly committed since November 2011. Had he entertained other schools, he likely would have received some PAC 12 offers...and in turn, probably would have been ranked a 3-star recruit. But why would a PAC 12 school waste an offer on a steadfast BYU commit?



This is one of the main weaknesses of the recruiting services.



For instance, Shipley was a 2-star recruit when committed to BYU. Once he started getting offers from Oregon State and Boise and then flips his commitment to Boise, he magically became a 3-star recruit. [As a side note, he is slower than Davis and has worse hands than Shumway, so no worries. He was never more than added depth].

Hoff was recruited by NO ONE. Ogletree was recruited by no one including BYU, he had to beg to come here (bronco admits he missed on Ogletree). Both proved the recruiting services wrong. There is no reason to freak out about how good or bad a class is until they either fail or succeed on the field.

I suggest measuring it this way.



A five star recruit should end up with a fake internet girlfriend, a chance to go NFL early, Heisman or other major trophy finalist, and be a first rounder or they have underachieved. Conversely, if Iggy can round up a fake GF he overachieved.



Four star - high round draft pick. NFL starter.



Three star. Late round pick or undrafted player who makes an NFL roster. Ie Max Hall and John Beck.



Two star - CFL



One star - hope they do well in med school or as a coach.



That is how I would score over and under achievement after the fact.
